What a surprise Tyler Allgeier has been this season! The rookie back is now 183 yards away from a 1,000 rushing-yard season, something I don’t think anyone would have expected heading into Week 1.
With the Falcons out of the playoffs, head coach Arthur Smith finally appears ready to start the youth movement in Atlanta. He already benched Marcus Mariota in favor of a more passer-friendly quarterback in Desmond Ridder and now looks to have pushed Allgelier over Cordarrelle Patterson as the lead man in the backfield.
Over the last two weeks, the rookie has logged back-to-back games of 17+ touches and, for the first time, out-snapped Cordarrelle Patterson 42-26 in Week 16.
I expect the former BYU product to continue shining, especially in a favorable matchup vs. the Cardinals. Fouth-string QB David Blough will make his first start of the season throwing to a receiving corps without Deandre Hopkins and Rondale Moore. They are also out of the playoffs and are six-point underdogs as the away team. Safe to say, it will take work to sustain drives.
The Cardinals are allowing the sixth-most (4.71) yards per carry and have most recently allowed Leonard Fournette (20) and Latavius Murray (24) to achieve this prop in the last two games without Kyler Murray.
With the way the game script shapes up, I have Allgeier projected for around 16.6 rush attempts as a floor and would take this prop even at 15.5 attempts.
Pick: T. Allgeier over 14.5 rush attempts (-114) |
