Update: The Vikings have a 20% chance to make the NFL playoffs entering Week 17, according to Action Network's Predictive Analytics team.
Update: The Vikings have an estimated 54% chance to make the NFL playoffs entering Week 16. They have the toughest remaining strength of schedule of any team in the playoff hunt.
Week 15 Update: The Vikings lost a thriller in overtime to the Bengals Saturday night. The Vikings have an estimated 30% chance to make the NFL playoffs after the loss. The outcome also boosts the three NFC South teams' chances to make the playoffs by 7-10% entering Sunday's game — the Vikings were a game ahead all three teams to start the week. Minnesota has a win over the Packers at Lambeau, but Green Bay can still pass the Vikings in wins if they win out and beat the Vikings in Week 17.
It’s been a topsy-turvy season for the Vikings who somehow own the second Wild Card spot entering Week 15.
They began the season 1-4, then rattled off five straight wins despite Justin Jefferson being on injured reserve and Kirk Cousins getting sidelined for the season with an Achilles injury. Josh Dobbs authored a pair of memorable wins, but came crashing to Earth and will be replaced by Nick Mullens, the fourth quarterback to start for the Vikings this season.
Making the playoffs won’t be easy for the Vikings. They’re tied for the fourth-hardest schedule to end the season with games against the Bengals, Packers and a pair against the Lions. Still, Action Network's Predictive Analytics team gives the Vikings a 50% chance to make the NFL Playoffs.
A major boon to their postseason chances is the return of Jefferson. He made his highly anticipated return from a hamstring injury in Week 14 against the Raiders, but it was unfortunately cut short due after a hard hit to his landed him in the hospital. (He’s expected to suit up Saturday against the Bengals.)
Meanwhile, the Vikings are in a tremendous spot in regard to tiebreakers. They’re 6-3 against the NFC and own tiebreakers Green Bay, Atlanta and New Orleans.
