The 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing are set to begin with the Opening Ceremony on February 4, though preliminary events will begin as early as February 2.
One of the most interesting angles bettors can take when looking at the Olympics is medal counts for individual countries. Or more specifically, which country will garner the most gold medals and total medals.
In odds released by FanDuel, Norway has been installed as a heavy favorite to finish with the most gold medals. At -370, a $100 wager on Norway would net just $27.03 in winnings.
Germany is the second favorite at +700. A $100 wager on Germany could net $700 if that country were to finish with the most gold medals.
The United States is fifth on the odds board at +1800, meaning if Team USA were to finish with the most golds, a $100 wager would net $1,800.
Norway being favored makes sense, particularly when you look at the medals table from four years ago in South Korea. The Norwegians finished tied with Germany at 14 gold medals a piece. Team USA finished with nine gold medals, the fourth-most behind Norway, Germany and Canada.

In addition to betting on gold medals, you can bet on overall medal count, too. Again, Norway is the favorite here at an even stronger -470. A $100 bet on Norway in this category would net just $21.28.
After Norway, the ROC (Russian Olympic Committee) comes in second at +850, meaning a $100 wager could net $850. The United States again checks in lower, tied with Canada for fourth-lowest odds at +1800. A $100 wager on either the United States or Canada would net $1,800.
Four years ago in South Korea, Norway dominated the medal count with 39 total, eight more than second-place Germany. Canada finished with 29 total medals while Team USA finished with 23.
