The 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris give us 16 days to be patriotic and back our fellow Americans as they go for the gold.
Oddsmakers expect plenty of opportunities for the USA to cash as we have the best odds for the most gold medals by a wide margin. The United States is -750, while the next closest countries are China (+350), France (+6500), Japan (+8000) and Great Britain (+80000)
But just how good are the United States' chances in each sport?
Well, let’s take a closer look at the odds for popular individual and team events.
Men's Basketball
No one will ever forget the original Dream Team in 1992, which was the first time active NBA stars participated in the Summer Games. One of the highest honors these days is to be picked for Team USA, which has won gold every year except in 2004, when they infamously settled for bronze. The United States has struggled in it's tune-ups, despite going undefeated, but is still heavily favored to win it all (-500). Canada is seen as the biggest threat at +1100.
Women's Basketball
Women's basketball has undergone a renaissance, and you could argue there's more attention on this years' Olympic team than ever. The US has won gold nine times, including seven straight dating back to 1996. The Americans are a massive favorite at -1800 to win an eighth straight gold. Australia and Spain own the next best odds at +2200.
Men's Golf
Americans dominated the four majors this year, winning them all for the 11th time. Xander Schauffele won the PGA Championship and British Open, Scottie Scheffler won the Masters and Bryson DeChambeau won the U.S. Open.

---|
Scottie Scheffler | +330 |
Xander Schauffele | +600 |
Collin Morikawa | +1000 |
Wyndham Clark | +4000 |
Women's Golf
Nelly Korda and Lilia Vu are the favorites to win gold, while Rose Zhang has the fifth-best odds.

Lilia Vu | +800 |
Rose Zhang | +1600 |
Men's Soccer
The Unites States flamed out in the Copa America, which resulted in Gregg Berhalter's firing. The Olympic team looks awfully different as players must be under 23 (albeit with a few exceptions). The United State enter the tournament with the fifth-best odds at +1600.
Women's Soccer
The US women have long been a dynamo, and that remains the case as they're favored to bring home the gold at +175.
Men's Swimming
This used to be all about Michael Phelps. However, there's no elite US men's swimmer these days, making it a wide open field for several Americans.

Women's Swimming
If it's the Summer Olympics, that means it's Katie Ledecky's time to shine. She owns seven gold medals and has a chance to tie or surpass Jenny Thompson for the most in Olympic history. However, she's far from the only American who'll hit the pool with chances to finish in first. After all, she's not competing in every event.

Track and field boasts a wide array of events. The most notable name this year is Sha'Carri Richardson, one of the fastest women in the world, who was controversially disqualified from the 2020 Summer Games for testing positive for marijuana.
