What same game parlay features do they offer?

DraftKings has been trying to improve its same game parlay product for several years, which lagged behind FanDuel and bet365 in our rankings.

While the organization of all the betting options in SGPs still leaves a little to be desired as we touched on above, DK did add “dynamic pricing” within the last year – one of my favorite features of bet365’s industry-leading SGP product. When you’re adding legs to a same game parlay, DraftKings will automatically show you what the price will be if you add the next leg.

This is a great way for bettors to build their same game parlays because they get a better sense for where the prices are going without having to test each individual leg. I do think it can lead you into some bad decisions as you see the prices go up, but overall, it’s a feature that most users like. You do have the option to turn it off, which is unique to DK as well.

How straightforward is finding and browsing betting markets?

DraftKings still has my favorite sportsbook app navigation and organization when it comes to finding and betting props and futures. SGPs still need some work.

Most sportsbooks "stack” every market on top of each other, and you’ll end up with an endless list of markets trying to scroll to find what you want. DK uses a two-tier navigation – so once you land on “props” for an NFL game, there will be another horizontal menu that shows you can find passing props, rushing props, etc. It makes the “stacked” lists much smaller per view.

But DK stack markets on top of each other in same game parlays, creating an endless list to scroll through. Check out the difference between betting soccer corners in an SGP at DraftKings and bet365.

You can change the view you want to see at bet365 in one tidy module – both teams combined, one specific team, one team in the first half, etc. At DraftKings, it’s just an endless stack of individual markets that all look similar.

DraftKings App In-App Search

DraftKings Sportsbook does have an in-app search that serves two main functions. It can be used to find a particular sport, league, betting markets, team, or event when you’re already in that league. 

Final Verdict: Excellent. DraftKings Sportsbook has a best-in-class app when it comes to navigation.

How quickly does the DraftKings mobile app update and respond to input?

DraftKings is top-tier in mobile app speed and responsiveness to user input. The navigation does not lag when switching between contests, sports, leagues, or any other app screen. The only feature with noticeable delay was the Same Game Parlay, which redirects users into a separate view from the standard sportsbook pages.

Final Verdict: Great. DraftKings is one of the fastest sportsbook mobile apps in the business. Lightning-fast load screens and input response are standard throughout almost all user experiences. This is perfect for users to handle their bonus bets quickly in the DraftKings Sportsbook app.

• Good density. The bet slip can fit five bets in a single view.
• The bet slip is a half-screen takeover, which is nice because you can easily click out of this to add more wagers.
• The parlay option at the bottom of the bet slip allows users to create parlays from all of their selections easily, or they can bet them straight as individual wagers all from the same screen.
• The payout calculations include the original stake into your winnings, which we find deceptive. For example, a bet of $100 could be listed as a payout of $190 in DraftKings, but only $90 of the winnings is profit, while the rest is just the original stake. 
• Bonus bets are available to be seen as well.
• DraftKings Sportsbook automatically includes a Round Robin option in the bet slip when a user adds three or more bets to their slip. 
• The "X" used to delete bets from the slip is small, so it can be hard to hit correctly. Users can also swipe left to delete a bet from the slip if they find it more accessible.

In addition to the bet slip, DraftKings has a "My Bets" feature. Here, users can track all bets or filter by their open bets, settled bets, won bets, or lost bets. This is a great way to track betting data over time.

	Moneyline: Moneyline betting is when you pick the outright winner of a game or event. In this case, the Bulls or Bucks Bucks are the favorite at -900 to the underdog Bulls at +600
	Totals: Totals, also known as an over/under, are bets on the number of points both teams will combine to score in a game.  Pick either "Over" or "Under" 217.5 for the upcoming Bulls vs. Bucks match up
	Half Bets: Half-bets or Quarter bets let a bettor treat the first and second half as separate matches. Downloading our app can help you do this with ease. Moneyline, Spread, and Total bets are shown for just the 1st Half of the Bucks/Bulls game under the "Quarter and/or Halves" tab
	Prop Bets: Short for a proposition, Prop bets wager that is not directly tied to the final score or outcome.  Player props for individual players to score the first field goal in the Bucks/Bulls game are listed under "Player Props" in the top in-game navigation
	Futures bets: Futures bets are bets on an event that will be decided in the future (e.g., end-of-season results).  DraftKings lists the Golden State Warriors as favorites to win the NBA Finals at +300

These are just some of the standard bet-type options available on DraftKings Sportsbook. In addition to these traditional bets, DraftKings also offers a few featured betting options unique to their sportsbook.

DraftKings Featured Bet Types

Flash Bet

DraftKings Sportsbook is changing the game regarding live in-game betting with Flash Bet. Flash Betting is designed to provide users with an instantaneous result as play happens within a contest. For example, we could bet who will score the next basket in an NBA game. Our bet will either win or lose as soon as the next basket is made. Flash Bet may not be available for every contest, but for those users looking for some quick-play action, this is definitely the way to go.

DraftKings remains No. 1 in our rankings for existing user promotions. Over the last few years, they’ve shifted away from the typical “odds boosts” where they pick the bet, and gone moreso with same game parlay profit boosts (up to 100% the more legs you add), odds surges (i.e. adding +300 to any golf winner), mystery boosts on certain events (anywhere from 20% to 50% on any bet).

Your max bet on these promotions will vary from $5 to $50, but if you value existing user promotions, you should definitely keep money at DraftKings.

Takeaway: Flash Bet is a unique feature to DraftKings that allows users to take live in-game betting to a new level. 

Progressive Parlays

DraftKings Sportsbook recently announced a new style of sports betting on their app: progressive parlays. The user can pick between 3-12 over/unders to be combined into this "progressive parlay" on DraftKings. 

The unique part of this parlay is that if you lose one or two parts of your leg, you still win something in the end. In DraftKings's example, a sports bettor who picks 10 over/under props and gets them all correct wins at 150/1 odds. If they get 9/10 right, the payout then drops to 15/1. 8/10 correct would yield a payout at +300 odds, 7/10 would pay at -200 odds, and so on. 

Takeaway: The progressive parlay is definitely fresh and interesting, and we are excited to try it out, but still wonder if it will be a success for DraftKings. 

Pools

DraftKings has created a functionality where users can enter Pools for a fixed price point entry. Wagers are placed against other DraftKings users in the same pool for a specific event. Users compete against each other to win the pool based on the event. The total payout is determined by how many other players are in the pool and the price point set to enter. In many cases, a Pool could feature multiple, or tiered, winners so that prize money will be divided according to the Pool's setup.

There are a variety of Pool types that users can create and enter. Here's a list of the options to look out for:

• Pick 'Em
• Squares
• Brackets
• Survivors

Pools can also be structured in a variety of ways so that no one Pool may be like another, even for the same event:

• Fixed Price or Fixed Number of Entries
• Pari-Mutual with Rollovers (Growing Prize Pool that allows winnings to roll over to the closest player should no one fully meet the winning criteria)
• Pari-Mutual (Growing Prize Pool with at least one winner(s))

Takeaway: Pools are a unique and fun way for users to compete against other DraftKings users rather than betting against the book itself. This is akin to some of fantasy roots that DraftKings is known for, and is a welcome twist to many who use the platform.

DraftKings Sportsbook offers daily odds boosts for the biggest sports. Odds boosts are enhanced odds for a given outcome that thus augment potential winnings.

Parlay Insurance at DraftKings Sportsbook

DraftKings Sportsbook offers parlay insurance up to $25 if you ever suffer the ultimate heartbreak of having only one leg of your parlay lose.

Here’s an example of when the DraftKing Sportsbook parlay insurance would come in handy: Say you bet $100 on a three-team parlay with the Dodgers +100, Red Sox +120 and Cubs +200. If the Dodgers and Red Sox win, but the Cubs lose, you would get back $25.

DraftKings Social 

When DraftKings first added its “social” feature, I thought it was a big nothing. Why would I want to see all these random bets from random people in a feed? But then my friends created a betting group where we get notifications for all our bets, and it’s created a stickiness for DraftKings among them. They only really want to keep money in 1-2 sportsbooks anyway, and they want to tell our friends what they’re betting without having to text them 1,000 screenshots. So they always opt to bet at DraftKings, even if the price is a little worse than at another sportsbook.

I’m surprised DraftKings isn’t doing more to get users to create and join groups. Betting is very social in the modern age, but it’s likely hard to connect users without DraftKings knowing who knows one another.

Informed Onboarding and Bettor Education

DraftKings offers a "Quick Start Guide" that covers fundamental betting basics for their users: understanding odds, placing a bet, live betting, and a rich glossary resource of betting terminology (e.g., American Odds, bet slip, etc.) and sporting terminology (e.g., Ace, buzzer-beater, etc.)  as it relates to their app.

They also offer more in-depth, sport-specific guides with tips and insights for each:

Additionally, if DraftKings had outlined sport-by-sport rules, users would have questions.

Security Practices

To help protect sportsbook users, DraftKings has opt-in “strong authentication” that triggers a text message containing a temporary six-digit code that must be entered on any login attempt.

VIP

DraftKings has been reaching out to more and more users about joining its VIP Program. You’ll likely get an email or text message, or you can apply for the program here. A “personal host” will reach out, which makes it seem like a scam to some, but it’s not – they’re just trying to make you feel like you’re truly valued.

DK runs what they call a “VIP Showcase” that’s supposed to demonstrate whether or not your betting patterns and behavior makes you a VIP. If you are accepted, you’ll get any number of benefits, including bonus bets, tickets to sporting events and more. The value you get depends on how much they think you’ll lose.

Here’s how the showcase works.

Week 1: For every $1,000 you bet during the 5-day window, you’ll get $100 in bonus bets. You can earn up to $2,000 in bonus bets, which would mean you need to wager $20,000+. 

Hedging against the VIP Showcase is a popular option for users trying to employ +EV betting techniques through “matched betting.”

You’ll want to bet one side of a game at DK, and the other at a different sportsbook that has a close price. There aren’t dozens of these opportunities per day with major markets, so you’ll have to pay close attention to the market.

DraftKings has Yankees -1.5 at +140: Bet $1,000 to win $1,400
BetMGM has Mets +1.5 at -140: Bet $1,400 to win $1,000

No matter what happens in the game, you’ll break even, but you’ll get a $100 bonus bet from DraftKings because you just wagered $1,000.

Action Tip: Only bet main markets (spreads, moneylines, totals) in major sports when employing these techniques. You may get limited betting $1,000+ on small sports or small markets like props. And the easiest way to get limited is to consistently beat the closing line, which will happen far more often with props.

Week 2: Get $100 in bonus bets for every $250 you bet on same game parlays or SGP+ wagers, up to $500 in bonus bets.

Week 3: 15% lossback promotion – receive 15% of your losses back, up to $2,000 in DK Dollars. So if you lose $10,000 in this window, you’ll get $1,500 back.

Similar to Week 1, you can employ the hedging technique and you’ll get back anything you lose at DraftKings in DK Dollars.

DraftKings will then evaluate your play during the showcase, and determine whether or not you’re a fit to be a VIP.
