For the fifth time this season, Barcelona and Real Madrid battle in the biggest rivalry in Spain, with this meeting coming in the second leg of the Copa del Rey semifinals.
The hosts come into this match with a 1-0 lead after defeating Los Blancos at the Santiago Bernabéu last month thanks to an Éder Militão own goal.
On the campaign, Xavi’s side has won three of four against Madrid, including in the Supercopa de España final and the last three straight.
With Barcelona effectively having the league title also wrapped up, this is the last opportunity for the Madridistas to claim a domestic trophy, which should make this a feisty encounter at the Spotify Camp Nou.
Barcelona Seeking Bounce Back Treble
Can Barcelona move one step closer to completing the domestic treble by booking a spot in the Copa del Rey final? This would be the first time the club claimed three trophies in the same season since the 2014-15 campaign.
Xavi’s team has been impressive on both ends of the field, averaging 1.96 xG per match and allowing just nine goals in La Liga.
Like their heated rival, the Catalan club also owns a world-class striker in Robert Lewandowski, who has found the back of the net 27 times across all competitions.
For this match, Barcelona will be missing multiple key players, including Pedri and Ousmane Dembélé. There will also be a late fitness test for midfielder Frankie De Jong, which would leave Xavi with a depleted midfield if he also misses the game.
Real Madrid Focused on Cup Competitions
There is still plenty to play for in this season for manager Carlo Ancelotti’s team, with the club in the quarterfinals of the Champions League to go along with this cup run.
Even with how strong Barcelona have been in the league, Madrid have still been better in multiple categories, including xGDiff (+32.3), goals scored (57) and xG per 90 minutes (2.10).
The attack is once again spearheaded by French star Karim Benzema, who is fresh off a hat trick in the win over Valladolid this past weekend. The striker has 21 goals and four assists in all competitions this season, but his attacking partner has played a part in more goals.
Brazilian winger Vinicius Jr. has either scored or assisted on 27 goals to make this one of the best attacks in all of Europe.
Barcelona vs Real Madrid Pick
When these two have played in games this season, there have typically been goals involved. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.
My best bet is for the total to fly over 2.5 goals at -118 odds.
If you had made this same play in the previous four meetings, you would have cashed a winning ticket on three occasions. This has also been the theme when either club plays the better teams on their schedule.
Whenever Barcelona have come up against a top six La Liga side or European foe at home this season, there have been at least three goals in all six matches.
Meanwhile, Real Madrid’s fixtures against similar opposition away from home have gone over this same total in six of eight games.
Once you add in the fact that Madrid have to attack from the opening kick to overcome a 1-0 deficit, I just think the game state will always aid in goals.
