Following the international break, Brighton & Hove Albion return to Premier League action at home against Brentford on Saturday.
The Seagulls enter the fixture in seventh with 42 points, with a win likely pushing them into the European places.
Meanwhile, the Bees are just one spot behind the hosts, with only Manchester City, Arsenal and Newcastle having fewer losses on the season.
This should be an entertaining game with plenty of attacking talents, and I feel we should see goals in this battle for a spot in Europe next year.
Brighton in Uncharted Territory
After the switch at manager, most were expecting a drop in form for Brighton, but that has not been the case under Roberto De Zerbi. The club is in the semifinal of the FA Cup with a great opportunity to qualify for Europe, something that would be an insane feat for this team.
De Zerbi’s team has been impressive in attack, averaging 1.94 xG and 3.0 big chances over the last 11 matches.
This is also the same side that is in the top six in the Premier League in the fewest expected goals allowed (1.16) and big chances allowed (1.58) per 90 minutes.
Brighton also boast an in-form striker in Solly March, who has seven goals over the last 11 league games.
Brentford In-Form Since New Year
Since the World Cup break, there aren’t many teams in all of Europe who have played better than Brentford, who only have one loss over the 12 matches. In fact, only the top two sides in the EPL have more points over the last 10 games.
One of the keys for manager Thomas Frank’s side has been the solid attack that has found the back of the net in all but two league fixtures since the World Cup.
Over this stretch, the Bees have averaged 1.58 xG and 2.25 big scoring chances per match, according to fbref.com.
It also helps when you have one of the best strikers in the English top-flight to finish off the chances in Ivan Toney. The England international is third in the EPL with 16 goals.
Brighton & Hove Albion vs Brentford Pick
When I look at the odds, Brighton come in as a pretty hefty favorite with -150 odds to go along with a total of 2.5. The Seagulls have been impressive this season, but this number has gone a bit too far.
My best bet is to back Brentford on the spread of +0.75 at +104.
This is a Bees squad that has already won at Manchester City and picked up a draw at Arsenal. Meanwhile, they have only been beaten by multiple goals on the road twice this season, with both losses back in October.
The advanced metrics also match the performances of the visitors, as Brentford own a +3.0 xGDiff since the World Cup break. The London club is also one of just five in the EPL who has a positive xGDiff on the road this season.
