Chelsea is battling for a spot in next season’s European tournaments, while Leicester is focused on avoiding relegation. Their objectives may differ, but both teams desperately need a win as they face off in Matchday 28 of the Premier League.

Neither side is in top form. However, rather than diminishing the excitement, their inconsistency this season—combined with their recent head-to-head history—sets the stage for a goal-filled showdown. Kickoff at Stamford Bridge is set for Sunday, March 9, at 10 a.m. ET.

Here is my Chelsea vs. Leicester prediction and EPL odds for today's match.

Chelsea Prediction

The London side is coming off a strong week, having thrashed Southampton 4-0 in the league and secured a 2-1 win in Denmark over Copenhagen in the first leg of the UEFA Conference League Round of 16. However, their season has fallen short of expectations for a club that spent a fortune to compete for major titles.

In the Premier, Chelsea sits fifth, though just four points away from the 10th-placed team. Looking ahead, they have the chance to surpass Manchester City after the Citizens' loss to Nottingham Forest. Moving into fourth place and dreaming of a spot on the podium is the best they can hope for. Anything beyond that—catching Arsenal and league leaders Liverpool—is out of reach.

Injury concerns persist, with Noni Madueke, Nicolas Jackson, Romeo Lavia, and Marc Guiu still sidelined. Malo Gusto had to be subbed off in the first half against Copenhagen and remains doubtful, while Wesley Fofana is now available to return.

Leicester manager Enzo Maresca, who guided the Foxes to promotion last season, will likely rest captain Reece James after his return from injury and opt for Filip Jorgensen in goal instead of Robert Sánchez. Pedro Neto and Christopher Nkunku could also return to the starting XI.

Leicester Prediction

Four consecutive defeats have dragged the Foxes even deeper into the relegation battle. They hold the second-worst records in both goals scored (25) and conceded (61), only ahead of last-place Southampton, who are on track for one of the worst seasons in Premier League history.

Ruud van Nistelrooy’s side had a 10-day break—enough time to rest and, more importantly, reflect on how to escape their current crisis. Their upcoming schedule is brutal: after visiting Stamford Bridge, they will face Manchester United, Manchester City, Newcastle, Brighton, and Liverpool.

It's a bleak outlook for the club that pulled off one of football’s greatest modern fairytales by winning the Premier League title in 2015-16. However, there is some positive news, as right-backs Woyo Coulibaly and Ricardo Pereira have recovered from injury.

The rest of the squad is available, including legendary striker Jamie Vardy, who is expected to lead the attack. One key decision remains—whether Jordan Ayew will continue as one of the wingers or if Facundo Buonanotte will get the nod.

Chelsea vs. Leicester Pick

Chelsea and Leicester developed a small rivalry in the 1970s when both clubs were battling for promotion from the second division. That rivalry resurfaced when they clashed in the 2020-21 FA Cup final, which the Foxes won.

That was Leicester’s last victory over Chelsea. The Blues are unbeaten in their last seven matchups, winning the last four. Given their current situation, the trend is likely to continue.

Beyond a Chelsea win, a high-scoring match is also expected. Since Boxing Day, Chelsea has kept only two clean sheets across all competitions. Meanwhile, seven of Leicester’s 13 away matches this season have featured four or more goals.

Chelsea vs. Leicester Pick: Chelsea ML and Over 3.5 goals (+105, DraftKings)
