Manchester United look to put the embarrassment of a derby defeat fully behind them when they visit in-form Everton on Sunday.

United bounced back from their 6-3 defeat to Manchester City a week ago with an away victory in the Europa League on Thursday night. And despite the nature of that derby loss, Erik ten Hag's men have improved after a rocky start, winning six of eight overall and four of five in the league.

Everton are also trending upward after consecutive victories home to West Ham and away to Southampton. But there have been plenty of heroics from England No. 1 goalkeeper Jordan Pickford and otherwise nervy moments, with every game of their season so far decided by one goal.

Everton took four points out of six between the teams last season, earning a 1-1 draw at Old Trafford and a 1-0 home win at Goodison Park.

Everton

The Toffees found their defensive chops toward the end of last season under Frank Lampard. And that's definitely been the early season focus in Lampard's first full year on the Blue half of Merseyside.

Part of that has been by necessity. Striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin still hasn't featured this year, and Neal Maupay has only been available twice since his transfer from Brighton and Hove Albion.

But it's worked. Everton have conceded twice in only one game, and after drawing four matches in a row have won two on the trot.

Beyond the form sheet, though, there's evidence the Toffees are going to need better attacking product soon. That could make Calvert-Lewin's return to fitness this week crucial, even if it's in a role off the bench.

Pickford has magnificently bailed his team out at times. Lampard's men have conceded only three goals in their last five games while allowing 9.6 xG across them.

Manchester United

The Red Devils rallied from a halftime deficit in their 3-2 triumph at Cypriot side AC Omonia on Thursday night.

Macus Rashford scored a second-half brace, and Anthony Martial also found the net after the break. And with both men coming off the bench, ten Hag's hope will be that they bring momentum coupled with fresh enough legs into Sunday's clash.

If there's a place for the Devils to improve — aside from playing better in intracity matches — it's in the final third on their Premier League travels.

Three of United's five league away goals came late on against City after the outcome was already decided. They've created only 4.5 xG across four away league matches.

Defender Raphael Varane is questionable to return for the visitors. Center back Harry Maguire is among those out to injury.

Betting Analysis & Pick

Everton have kept consecutive clean sheets at home, but have ridden some good fortune in both.

That said, Manchester United have shown little sign so far of the ability to run up the score in any of their Premier League travels.

With Everton's attack and United's defense a little uncertain, that has me leaning toward the opposite end of the pitch and playing the visitors to score exactly once at +170 odds and an implied 37% probability. It's a bet that has hit half the time so far between Everton's home and Man U's away league clashes.

The Pick: Manchester United 1 goal exact (+170)
