Marco Silva's Fulham will be hosting Rotherham United in the third round of the FA Cup. Fulham will be looking to advance in what looks like a favorable match for them, while Rotherham will be looking to give its fans any sliver of hope as its campaign has been woeful so far.

Fulham currently sit 13th in the Premier League on 24 points after a massive 2-1 win against Arsenal in its match last weekend. Rotherham currently sit bottom of the Championship on just 18 points after 26 matches. It has only won one of its last 14 matches since the end of October.

Let's see how this lopsided match should play out and how to bet Fulham vs Rotherham.

Fulham

The Cottagers have been average in most facets of the Premier League at face value. However, when you dig a little deeper and look at some of the underlying metrics, they have been one of the more fortunate sides in the league this season.

Fulham has conceded 35 goals this season on just around 35 xGA, but has scored 28 goals on just 24 xG. Their expected goal difference is -9.9, which is the fourth-worst in the entire Premier League, only above the three teams in the relegation zone at the moment. This is mainly due to Fulham's form away from Craven Cottage.

At home this season, Fulham has picked up the eight-most points, scored the eight-most goals and produced the 10th-best expected goal difference. They have actually been a solid mid-table side at home. But away from home, they have picked up just six points, the third-lowest total in the league. They have also scored the second-lowest number of goals away from home and conceded the third-most.

Luckily for them, Rotherham has been even worse away from home.

Rotherham

Rotherham has had a season to forget so far, and if it wants any chance of staying in the Championship, it will need to gain some form. In the league this season, Rotherham has only picked up three points in its 13 matches away from home — with a -25 goal difference and 33 goals conceded in those matches. Simply put, they have been the worst team in the Championship this season by a decent amount.

What is even more worrying about this side is that not only do they firmly sit bottom of the table, but they have massively over-performed as well. They have scored just 24 goals this season and have less than 18 xG in their 26 matches. It would be a miracle if they stay in the Championship with the way they have been performing this season. Luckily, anything can happen in the FA Cup.

Rotherham typically sets up in a 5-3-2 formation, which will be needed against this Fulham side that likes to attack with width. They will need to attack on the counter with speed if they have any chance of advancing to the next round in this match. They will be pinned back in their own penalty area for the majority of the match while sitting back, as they have a PPDA of over 17, meaning they do not press at all. Rotherham will need to be perfect defensively if it wants to have any shot of winning this match.

Prediction

Rotherham will need to defend for its lives in this match and pray that it is able to capitalize on a defensive mistake by Fulham. I anticipate Rotherham will play a near full-strength squad, while Fulham may rest a few players after its packed December schedule.

The FA Cup is notorious for upsets, but I don't expect that to happen in this match. However, it is no easy task to break down a team that is playing with 11 men behind the ball for all 90 minutes. Therefore, I will be taking the under 3.5 goals in this match.

Pick: Under 3.5 Goals (-140 or better)
