Man City vs Leicester City is teed up to be another dominant performance from the Cityzens as they continue their momentum in the Premier League and get set to play the Foxes, who will play their very first match under manager Dean Smith.
City are on fire right now, winning their last five premier league matches and securing a big win over Bayern Munich on Tuesday in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final. After Premier League leaders Arsenal dropped points in their recent tie against Liverpool, the Cityzens sit six points below them with an extra game to play, and they are favorites for the title.
Meanwhile, Leicester sit at 19th in the EPL, on track for relegation. The Foxes have struggled recently, only securing one win in their last 10 matches.
City’s Historic Attack Defense
Everyone’s talking about the Cityzens’ recent goal scoring as they put away a remarkable 24 goals in their past five matches, but it’s worth admiring their defensive performances as well.
City have allowed their opposition to put away just eight goals in their last 16 matches and have kept a clean sheet in six of their last eight matches. Furthermore, in each of their last five EPL fixtures, City’s opposition have no more than five shots, including matchups against top English sides Newcastle and Liverpool.
After their impressive defensive effort on Tuesday holding Bayern Munich’s threatening attack to zero goals, I expect City to handily shut down Leicester this Saturday.
Leicester’s Attack Struggling For Form
After finishing in eighth place in the EPL last year, Leicester have been poor this season as they fight to avoid relegation. To make matters worse, the Foxes need to navigate injuries from some of their top players heading into this game against City.
Left winger Harvey Barnes, Leicester’s top goal scorer this season, will sit out of Saturday’s game due to an ankle injury. The Foxes will also play without one of their key versatile players, Ricardo Pereira.
The odds are stacked against the new manager Smith to get points in this match. Leicester have produced just four goals in their past six matches, and without two of their key players in the starting lineup, I expect Leicester to really struggle.
Man City vs Leicester City Pick
This weekend I’ll be betting on Leicester’s attack to get shut down by City’s defense. With City being in top form and Leicester kicking off their first game with a new manager while missing key players including their top goal scorer, I don’t expect Leicester to produce many chances in this match.
After Barnes, Leicester’s next best goal scorer is center attacking midfielder James Maddison, who will most likely need to try to create chances while defended by City’s rock-solid defensive midfielders John Stones and Rodri. In their last game, the duo shut down Bayern’s central attacking midfielder Jamal Musiala who could only produce one shot in 70 minutes of play. When Sadio Mané subbed on for Musiala, he produced zero shots.
While City have kept six of their last eight opponents to zero goals, including two of Europe’s top sides Bayern and Newcastle, I expect that they’ll come away with another clean sheet against Leicester. With Harvey Barnes out of the lineup, who has also racked up the most shots for Leicester this season, I’ll be sprinkling on Leicester under 5.5 shots as well.
