In the marquee match of the weekend, Manchester United hosts Arsenal at Old Trafford on Sunday to close out the Premier League slate.
The Gunners enter the game with the only perfect record in the EPL, with five wins and only four goals allowed.
Meanwhile, the Red Devils have turned around a slow start with three consecutive victories and have added some quality late in the transfer window.
This fixture has provided some historic moments in the English top flight, so I think this sets up to be another entertaining showdown.
Manchester United
New manager Erik ten Hag had already added one player from his former club in defender Lisandro Martínez, but he wasn’t done there.
The club announced the signing of Brazilian winger Antony from Dutch outfit Ajax earlier this week, which adds to the attacking talent at the club.
Once you add Real Madrid standout Casemiro and midfielder Christian Eriksen into the mix, United fans should be very happy with the summer business.
By The Numbers
- +7.5 — At home last season, United finished with this positive xGDiff, according to fbref.com.
- 5th— Only Manchester City, Liverpool, Arsenal and Tottenham finished with more home points than the Red Devils in the 2021-22 EPL campaign.
Arsenal
This has been an impressive start for manager Mikel Arteta’s team, but it hasn't all been perfect for the Gunners.
There have been key midfielders who have picked up injuries in Thomas Partey and captain Martin Ødegaard, with the duo also joined by Mohamed Elneny on the injury list.
When you add it all together, Arsenal will be very thin in the middle of the park, which could provide the moment for Emile Smith Rowe to reclaim his place in the starting lineup.
By The Numbers
- -8.9 — On the road against Top 6 teams last season, the Gunners lost four of five outings and owned this xGDiff overall.
- 1— Arsenal has only played one team (Leicester City) through the first five games that finished in the top half of the league table a season ago.
Betting Analysis & Pick
I understand the improvements Arsenal has made this summer, but I don't believe Arteta's team should be at this price at Old Trafford. That said, I'm backing Manchester United on the Draw no Bet market at -115 odds at BetMGM as my top pick.
Like I mentioned above, the Gunners have had a soft schedule to open the season and have to play their hardest game without their captain and key holding midfielder.
There might also be value on picking an Anytime Goalscorer for United, with Bruno Fernandes (+210), Marcus Rashford (+200) and Jadon Sancho (+350) featuring at great odds.
Arsenal has been overvalued for weeks, so I think this is the time to oppose the league leader.
The Pick: Manchester United — Draw No Bet (-115)
