Things should heat up in the Great Northwest on Sunday when Seattle hosts Los Angeles Football Club.

The Sounders are hoping to build on their impressive 3-0 shutout win against Portland last week. Seattle was on its heels for the majority of the match, but struck for three unanswered goals in the second half to guarantee the road victory.

It was a pleasant return to action for Seattle, which disappointed at the MLS Is Back tournament in Orlando. Coincidentally, it was LAFC who sent the defending MLS Cup champion home from the midsummer showcase in a 4-1 rout.

The Sounders will look to exact some revenge against an LAFC side that suffered a shocking 2-0 loss against the Los Angeles Galaxy in its first match back of the MLS restart.

Manager Bob Bradley and his franchise might have gotten the best of Seattle in Florida, but it will still have some added incentive to get all three road points in this spot. The Sounders handed LAFC a 3-1 upset loss in the MLS Cup playoffs last year and the visitor will surely be up for this match.

When it comes to the data and statistics, Seattle holds a massive edge over LAFC in the numbers. The Sounders boast a whopping 8.0 expected goals against 2.6 expected goals for a +5.4 xGDiff figure, along with a +1.81 xGDiff/90 minutes.

Expected goals (also known as xG) is an advanced statistic that gives an indication of whether results are based on sustainable factors like a steady creation of scoring chances, or whether it is down to aspects such as luck or outstanding goalkeeping.

In contrast, LAFC trails Seattle in the exact same categories (4.8 xGF/4.1 xGA = +0.7 xGDiff and +0.23 xGDiff/90) heading into the contest.

With all that in mind, I am backing Seattle at CenturyLink Field. The Sounders are the fitter side, due primarily to the knee injury sidelining LAFC star Carlos Vela.

Seattle has not had the best of luck in recent tilts against LAFC, going 1-3-1 in the last five meetings. However, Vela might be the league's most indispensable player, and Seattle should expose LAFC in the middle of the park on its way to the victory.

Back Seattle to win outright and it to score at least two goals in the match with confidence.

The Bets: Seattle -0.5 (+150); Seattle Total Over 1.5 Goals (-130)
