As the wait continues for the debuts of new signings, Toronto FC makes the trip to Soldier Field on Wednesday to take on Chicago in midweek Major League Soccer action.
Lorenzo Insigne’s debut was again pushed back after he sustained a slight calf injury, which is bad news for a team with only two wins over its last 12 matches.
Meanwhile, this Fire club has also failed to live up to preseason expectations, sitting in the basement of the Eastern Conference standings with 17 points.
This is a match of two bottom feeders in MLS, but this game does present great value in backing the underdog to get a result.
Chicago Fire
After coming into the season with plenty of hype, Chicago delivered a five-match unbeaten start to the campaign. However, everything has fallen apart after that.
The Fire has only picked up eight points from their last 14 games, which includes just a pair of wins and draws.
If there is one reason to be optimistic about this fixture, most of the club's results have come at Soldier Field, but it still hasn’t been enough to move the team into playoff contention.
By The Numbers
- 71% — All but five of the Fire’s points this season have been secured at home.
- 1 — Chicago has only won one game by multiple goals, which came against Sporting Kansas City back in March.
Toronto FC
While the club waits for Insigne to get healthy, Toronto made another move in the transfer market last week, acquiring Mark-Anthony Kaye from Colorado.
The Canadian midfielder has made 109 MLS appearances and won the 2019 Supporters’ Shield with Los Angeles FC.
There are rumors that Toronto isn’t finished making roster moves, so this could be a completely different team making a push for the playoffs.
By The Numbers
- 6 — In the last seven games, manager Bob Bradley’s team has allowed multiple goals in all but one of those fixtures.
- 3 — Toronto FC is one of three clubs that hasn’t claimed a road victory this season, joining San Jose Earthquakes and Colorado.

Betting Analysis & Picks
Yes, Toronto FC is one of the worst teams in MLS, but Chicago isn’t good enough to be this big of a favorite in this spot.
That said, I’m going to be splitting my best bet into two plays, putting half of my wager on the visitors to win on the moneyline at +400 odds. I’m also backing the Canadian club getting +0.5 goals at +125 odds offered at BetMGM as my other top pick.
In the first match between these sides back in May, the Reds earned a 3-2 home victory and I think this price is too good to pass up in the rematch.
The Picks: Toronto ML (+400) | Toronto +0.5 (+125)
