Following a dazzling display from the club’s new signings, Toronto FC makes the trip across the border Saturday to take on New England in Major League Soccer showdown.
The Reds' new attacking duo put on a show in their debuts last weekend, as they blew out Charlotte FC in a 4-0 shutout in what could be the start of a late-season playoff push.
Meanwhile, the Revolution have really sputtered lately, failing to secure a victory in their last five league games.
You can’t ignore the additions to the visitor’s squad, so I think the oddsmakers are moving too slow in adjusting Toronto’s odds in this game.
New England Revolution
This has been a very disappointing season so far for manager Bruce Arena and his New England squad.
After winning the club’s first Supporters’ Shield last season, the Revolution come into this game outside of the playoffs, sitting in 10th place on 26 points.
One issue has been the constant change at striker, with Gustavo Bou missing the last game due to injury and Adam Buksa and Jozy Altidore leaving during the transfer window. Altidore departed Thursday on four-month loan to Liga MX side Puebla, but will return to the New England next season.
Después de una llamadita y unas recomendaciones 100% avaladas☝🏻 ¡Ahora sí, es un hecho!😎
¡BIENVENIDO AL PUEBLOTA, @JozyAltidore!🔥 ¡YA ERES UN HIJO DE TU ENFRANJADÍSIMA, VAMOS A ROMPERLA!⚽️🔝

By The Numbers
- 53 — With a combined 14 goals and three assists, Bou and Buska have combined for over half of the team’s goals and this percentage, which would leave a huge hole if both are absent again this weekend.
- 2 — New England has only earned a pair of clean sheets over its last 12 games, which includes allowing a goal in five consecutive home games.
Toronto FC
The debuts of Lorenzo Insigne and Federico Bernardeschi were well worth the wait, with the duo combining for a goal and two assists against Charlotte.
What makes the performances even better is the fact they were both subbed off after just one minute into the second half.
However, make sure to pay attention to the starting lineups since Toronto traveled to Vancouver on Tuesday for the Canadian Championship finale that went all the way to penalties. The Whitecaps wound up winning the contest, locking up a spot in next season's CONCACAF Champions League event.
By The Numbers
- 4 — In the first appearances of Insigne and Bernardeschi last weekend, the team scored four goals for just the second time this season.
- 0 — Manager Bob Bradley’s team joins Colorado as the only squads in MLS to not earn a clean sheet away from home this season.
Betting Analysis & Pick
Sportsbooks have not caught up with the amount of talent Toronto has added to its roster this transfer window, so this could be the last opportunity to take advantage.
That said, my best bet is to back the Canadian club getting +0.5 goals on the Asian Handicap at +120 odds via BetMGM ahead of this affair.
The starting lineups are very crucial for this bet, but if Bou is unavailable and Toronto’s stars are at least on the bench, I think the visitors have great value to pick up a result.
The Pick: Toronto FC +0.5 (+120)
