In the final game of match day 2 at Copa América, Brazil and Paraguay both look for their first win in Group D.
The Selecao were held to a frustrating scoreless draw in their opener against Costa Rica.
Meanwhile, Paraguay fell to a 2-1 loss to Columbia to continue the poor form that carries over from CONMEBOL World Cup Qualifiers.
Goals have been a struggle for both nations, which should allow us to cash a winning ticket in a low-scoring game.
Here is my Paraguay vs Brazil preview.
Paraguay Picks
Brazil are not the only squad in this matchup that has attacking stars in the team. Premier League fans will also know a prominent duo for Paraguay.
Newcastle’s Miguel Almiron and Julio Enciso of Brighton can cause nightmares for opposing managers planning to shut down La Albirroja.
Unfortunately, Paraguay manager Daniel Garnerno has been unable to figure out the best formation and tactics to get the best out of the duo.
Enciso did find the back of the net in the opener, and he will need to continue to provide a goal threat for his squad to have a chance.
Brazil Picks
After losing four of six World Cup Qualifiers to end 2023, Brazil hired Dorival Júnior as manager to try to turn things around.
He is a veteran manager who has coached many of the top clubs in the country, including multiple stops at Flamengo and São Paulo.
His tenure started by defeating England in a friendly in March, but the draw with Costa Rica is not the best start to competitive action.
With the Real Madrid duo of Rodrygo and Vinicius Junior in attack, there is too much talent on this roster to continue to fail to score goals.
Paraguay vs Brazil
Prediction
I am expecting a response from Brazil, but I just have to find a better way of backing the favorite. So, I’m going back to a similar bet I made against Paraguay in their first match.
My best bet is a same-game parlay, pairing a Brazilian win with the total falling under four at +110. I would play this down to -120.
This is a nation that only scored one goal in World Cup Qualifying. The issues are down to the fact that Paraguay are relying on low-quality chances.
La Albirroja averaged 11.5 shots per 90 minutes, which was more than Argentina, Brazil and Uruguay. However, the team’s average shot distance was 20.8 yards to go along with an expected goals per shot of 0.08.
This is also the same side that failed to score in its two pre-tournament friendlies against Chile and Peru.
Meanwhile, I really believe Brazil are struggling without a true striker leading the line. Yes, Vini Jr. and Rodrygo can score goals, but this Brazilian squad does not have the trademark No. 9 to help put away chances.
Only one of the Selecao’s six World Cup Qualifying matches finished with four goals or more. Even with the change in manager, I still don’t think the offense is strong enough to hurt the total of this bet.
