Norwich City looks for their fourth consecutive win when they host Crystal Palace on Wednesday in Premier League action at Carrow Road.
The Canaries are on this winning streak after beating Everton and Watford in league play, along with a victory over Wolves in the FA Cup this past weekend. They're still in the relegation zone, but need to continue to get results if they have any hope of staying in the English top flight.
Crystal Palace lost a heartbreaking match to Liverpool before the international break, which kept the club in the bottom half of the table. Manager Patrick Vieira has his team playing at a fantastic level at the moment, but it just hasn't gotten the results, especially away from Selhurst Park.
So, this is a perfect opportunity to turn around that poor road form facing one of the worst EPL teams.
Norwich City Lands Win, But Still in Trouble
Sure, Norwich got a road 3-0 win against Watford before the break, but they're still the worst team in the league. The Hornets actually won the expected-goals battle in that game by a 1.1 -0.7 margin, per fbref.com.
The Canaries are still really struggling to create high quality chances. They've only created more than one xG once in their last seven matches and sit dead last in xG, shots per 90 minutes and big scoring chances.
The defense has also continued to struggle mightily, even with the return of top defender Grant Hanley. Norwich City is allowing 1.73 xG per game in their last eight fixtures, plus the club conceded more than two xG to Crystal Palace when they met in late December. Starting goalkeeper Tim Krul is also going to miss this match due to injury.
So, this is probably the only time where you can "sell high" on Norwich City.
Crystal Palace Had Success Against Latest Foe
Crystal Palace is only allowing 1.1 NPxG per match and has conceded the second-fewest big scoring chances. When the Eagles played the Canaries last time, they went ahead 3-0 in the first half and sort of rode the match out the rest of the way. Also, Palace was without Conor Gallagher and Wilfried Zaha for that contest.
Crystal Palace’s offense has really been improving over the past two months, creating 10.6 xG in their last seven matches, including putting up 2.2 xG against Liverpool before the international break.
The Eagles tend to struggle against high pressing teams, ranking 15th in Offensive PPDA this season. However, Norwich is last in pressure success rate, per fbref.com. So, I think this is a great spot for Crystal Palace to pick up all three points.
Betting Analysis & Pick
I have Crystal Palace projected at -106, so I like the value we're getting on them at +120 odds on the moneyline and will make it my top pick.
