Teams who were expecting more from this season meet at Elland Road on Sunday when Leeds United hosts Leicester City in a Premier League showdown.
The Peacocks made a splash in their return to the EPL last season by finishing in the top half of the table last season, while the Foxes won the FA Cup and secured a place in the Europa League to complete a fine season.
Neither side has been able to carry that success into this campaign, with both teams entering the weekend in the bottom half of the league table.
This should be a great fixture between two clubs looking to make their push up the standings.
Leeds Building Momentum Under Bielsa
Results are starting to pick up for Leeds, with two wins and draws in the last six matches to rank seventh in the form table.
Over that stretch of games, manager Marcelo Bielsa’s team has posted a +1 expected goals difference, according to fbref.com, which is much better than the -3.2 season total.
The Peacocks should continue to be able to add to the point total as key players return from injury and play more consistently, like Patrick Bamford, Luke Ayling and Robert Koch.
Brazilian striker Raphinha has picked up the slack from the absentees, leading the club with four goals in nine matches.
The main issues have been on defense, where Leeds ranks toward the bottom of the league in xGA at 16.5 this season.
Leicester Due for Improved Results
Like its counterpart, Leicester City also enters the fixture with a pair of wins and draws in the last six matches.
The Foxes are a bit unlucky to not have accumulated more points over that stretch, posting a +5 xG difference and winning the expected goals battle in all of those fixtures.
Brendan Rodgers’ side has scored 11 goals on 11.8 xG in the last six league games, with only Chelsea, Liverpool and West Ham posting better expected goals numbers during that time.
Striker Jamie Vardy continues to produce for Leicester by leading the team with seven goals, which is only behind Mohamed Salah in the Golden Boot race.
Betting Analysis & Pick
In a match between two sides in good form, the oddsmakers are expecting a close match, with Leicester the slight favorite at +150 on the moneyline. The total is set at 2.5 goals at -150 to go over the number.
I think both lines are about spot on, but I do see value in the team total markets for this fixture.
My best bet for the game is to play Leicester City to score more than 1.5 goals at even money.
I highlighted how the Foxes have been going forward in the EPL recently, but the attacking prowess has carried over in all games.
In Leicester’s last 10 matches in all competitions, Rodgers’ team has scored at least two goals in all but three fixtures. Two of those came in the Europa League.
Meanwhile, Leeds has been fortunate to improve its defensive records against lower competition recently, but you have to look at how Bielsa’s team has done against the better teams. In matches against Manchester United, Everton, Liverpool and West Ham United, those clubs scored at least two goals against the Peacocks.
It took a couple of months for Leicester City to get up and running for the new season, but I think the Foxes are a great bet to score multiple goals.
Pick: Leicester City — Team Total Over 1.5 Goals (+100)
