Germany are looking to rebound from a shock group stage loss to Colombia at the Women's World Cup.

Meanwhile, South Korea are simply looking for their first goal at this World Cup.

Read on for my preview, as well as pick and prediction for South Korea v Germany.

South Korea Underwhelming in World Cup

Safe to say as the only team with two losses in Group H, South Korea have not had the best World Cup. They lost 1-0 to Morocco despite dominating in possession (63%), passing (443 to 275) and pass accuracy (76%).

They managed to create chances, with six corners and 16 shots, but no shots on target. While there were improvements from their 2-0 loss to Colombia, the fact that they had no shots on target is concerning, and it won’t do well against a team like Germany.

South Korea are yet to score a goal in this World Cup, which is on par for the course for the year they’ve had offensively against top-tier teams. While they blew out Zambia in April friendlies and entered the World Cup on a three-game winning streak, they lost 4-0 to England to start the year and 2-1 to fellow World Cup qualifier Italy. They’ll want to see players like Ji So-yun and Park Eun-sun find some sort of rhythm if they want to stand a chance against Germany.

Even still, German coach Martina Voss-Tecklenburg isn’t overlooking the Korean side.

"This opponent is exciting for us," Voss-Tecklenburg said. "They play three completely different systems so it will be interesting to see how they approach this match. Colin [Bell] is a fantastic coach and he might surprise us."

Germany Should Recover From Upset Loss

Germany are coming off of their first group stage loss since 1995 in a shock upset by Colombia. Led by Alexandra Popp, their loss isn’t due to Germany’s lack of form, but rather Colombia’s ability to match it.

This is still the team that blew out Morocco 6-0 – with Popp scoring twice, and Lea Schulle and Klara Buhl all scoring – and they’re favorites in this World Cup for a reason. Against Morocco they dominated, putting up seven shots on target and completing passes at an 86% rate while tripling Morocco on passes (694 to 244).

They were a bit outplayed by Colombia – but not for a lack of effort. Colombia were simply more efficient. Germany still held possession 68% of the time and completed 80% of their passes. And defensively Colombia created a problem, allowing just two shots on goal despite 14 total shots.

But Germany shouldn’t have that problem against South Korea, and Popp has the chance to score in all three of Germany’s group stage games – something she’ll likely be looking to do.

South Korea vs Germany Pick

While Martina Voss-Tecklenburg might not be overlooking South Korea, that isn’t exactly a good thing for South Korea. It means that Germany will be prepared coming into this match, and likely they'll overpower a team that has looked overwhelmed at this World Cup.

With absolutely no shot of advancing, South Korea should have a target just to finish with a goal in this year’s World Cup. Even still, I expect Germany to prevail – and probably rest some of their big-name starters like Alexandra Popp and Lea Schull.

I'll back Germany to dominate.

The Pick: Germany 4 – South Korea 1 (South Korea +1.5, +135 via DraftKings)
