Jeremy Pond: There is no need to beat around the bush when it comes to this meeting between Inter Milan and Shakhtar Donetsk at San Siro Stadium. The Serie A outfit is in desperate need of all three points if it wants to reach the knockout stage along with Spanish giant Real Madrid or mighty minnow Sheriff Tiraspol.
Inter Milan has to be riding an unbelievable high entering this affair on home soil following its 3-2 victory over previously unbeaten Napoli this past weekend in the Italian top flight. Lautaro Martinez scored the eventual game winner against a foe that was 10-0-2 (W-L-D) entering the contest.
In contrast, Shakhtar sits bottom of the table with a single point that came in its scoreless draw against this same Inter side to open UCL competition. So, to say the Ukrainian outfit has underperformed on the biggest European stage would be an understatement.
That said, Inter should have its way with Shakhtar and I need to find some value on Nerazzurri. Oddsmakers have the hosts north of -300 odds across the board on the three-way monenline, but that's simply an unplayable number. So, we're turning to the Single Game Parlay combining Inter with the total going over 2.5 goals at -130 odds as my leg of the parlay.
My colleague, BJ Cunningham, has this match pegged for 2.93 xG (coincidentally, this is one of his game-total projections on the 16-game card) and Inter sitting at 2.15 xG on its own. That done nothing but give even more cautious optimism about this wager.
Pond's Pick: Single Game Parlay — Inter Milan & Total Over 2.5 Goals (-130)
Sporting vs. Dortmund
Sporting Odds | +160 |
Dortmund Odds | +170 |
Draw | +245 |
Over/Under | 2.5 (-140 / +115) |

Brett Pund: Sporting and Borussia Dortmund, who are tied on six points in Champions League play, square off in Portugal in a pivotal Group C match.
The German club has multiple players out for the match, including star striker Erling Haaland, attacker Thorgan Hazard and veteran defender Mats Hummels, which is why I’m backing the hosts for my parlay leg via a Draw No Bet wager at -115 odds.
If you look over the last six matches for Dortmund in all competitions, manager Marco Rose’s side has posted a -2 expected-goals difference, according to fbref.com, and only won the xG battle in two games.
Sporting enters the game in much better form, winning eight of its last nine fixtures overall to go with a +7.96 xGDiff over its last six contests.
With Ajax as its final opponent of the group stage, the Portuguese side knows it has to get a result from this match to advance to the knockout round.
I’ll back the home team to get a result against a team missing key contributors.
Pund's Pick: Sporting — Draw No Bet (-115)
Wednesday UCL Parlay
Inter Milan vs. Shakhtar: SGP — Inter Milan & Total Over 2.5 Goals (-130) & Sporting — Draw No Bet (-115) at +230 odds via DraftKings.
