A match that is bound to be a thriller to watch consists of the home up and comer Jack Draper against the speedy Alex de Minaur.
Draper has showcased his remarkable shot making this grass season whereas de Minuar has displayed his incredible speed, as always.
Who will find their way through the battle of opposite styles? Let's dive in.
De Minaur Ready For Wimbledon Run
Despite his success on grass courts – which includes a title in Eastbourne last year – de Minaur has made it beyond the second round of Wimbledon only once.
If you have ever watched de Minaur play, you know he is a walking highlight reel. The speed he possesses always makes his opponent hit the extra shot and he often finds himself winning points people would rule anyone else out of.
With a unique combination of aggression and defensive skills, de Minaur can cause problems for any opponent. His weak point of his game is his serve, but he often makes up for it with his remarkable return.
Following a disappointing 2021 by his standards, de Minaur seems to be back on track. With a 25-15 record on the year, he has clawed his way back into the top 30 after dropping below the 40 mark earlier this year.
Draper Thriving at Home
Draper has begun the year with a 31-8 record while making an impact at ATP tournaments in his home country.
The Brit has dominated the Challenger Tour in recent time. When presented the opportunity, Draper has hung with or beaten top ranked opponents.
With a 4-2 record against top 50 opponents in 2022, his two excruciatingly close matches – a 3-set loss to Rublev and a 6-7 4-6 loss to Norrie.
Draper operates behind a cannon serve and a monster forehand, and he possesses the ability to fire off both wings and consistently finish at the net.
In complete contrast to de Minaur, Draper's movement is subpar.
For a young player, Draper has displayed tremendous mental fortitude to go along with the deadly weapons, though his movement is the weakest part of his game.
Betting Value
I believe de Minaur will present Draper with a level of quality on the grass courts that will be different than any other opponent he has faced this year.
Even though Draper found ways to make hitting through Diego Schwartzman and Jenson Brooksby look easy, de Minaur will present a combination of unparalleled speed and aggression to put doubts into Draper's mind.
Stepping onto a main court in prime time in your home slam is a lot to ask of a 20 year-old. De Minaur will be sure to test the nerves more than any other opponent would.
The trio of experience, play style and pressure should be enough to send de Minaur through to the third round. After gaining lots of respect, Draper should be heading home following an excellent grass court season.
Pick: De Minaur -2.5 games (-115)
