Hubert Hurkacz is a hot name heading into Wimbledon following his win in Halle.

With so much momentum and a weak quarter he's drawn the eye of many bettors looking for some futures.

While he may indeed come through his quarter, his first-round match with Alejandro Davidovich Fokina may prove to be a tricky one.

Let's get into how to bet it.

Davidovich Fokina Has Experience On Grass

Davidovich Fokina is best known for his work on clay, where he has gone 100-62 across all levels over the course of his young career.

Hailing from Spain and producing his very best results on that surface (he went to the final in Monte Carlo this year), many are quick to count him out on grass, where he's just 7-8 for his career.

What you may not know is that the 23-year-old actually won the Boys' Singles title here at Wimbledon in 2017, and in doing so he didn't drop one set. Though he's yet to win a match in the main draw here at the All England Club, Davidovich Fokina was matched up with Denis Kudla, a very skilled grass player, last year.

He fell in five close sets, coming up with plenty of quality along the way.

Davidovich Fokina has done a good job of improving his serve this year and adding a little pop, which should help him push for that elusive first Wimbledon win.

He enters this tournament off of a fairly decent grass season, taking out the talented Alex de Minaur in the second round at Queen's Club.

Hurkacz Dealing With Tough Opponent

As noted above, Hurkacz is a popular dark-horse pick to win Wimbledon — and he has done a good deal to earn that respect.

The World No. 10 was a semifinalist here last year after pulling out an epic win over Daniil Medvedev and he comes into this tournament having just captured the trophy in Halle with impressive wins over Maxime Cressy, Felix Auger-Aliassime, Nick Kyrgios and Daniil Medvedev.

Aside from Matteo Berrettini and Novak Djokovic, it's possible Hurkacz is the best grass player in the world right now. He's a natural for the surface, possessing a massive serve which he has been absolutely bombing along with a sharp, low forehand and a deep swinging backhand.

He will be a difficult man to get games off of here at Wimbledon.

One man who has given Hurkacz fits throughout his career, though, is Davidovich Fokina. The Spaniard has beaten him twice, once at the US Open in 2020 and once in Montpellier in 2021. In his two losses, he's managed to take a set off of the Pole.

Betting Value

Given the history between these two, I find it hard to believe this match will be straightforward.

In fact, I think Davidovich Fokina may be able to nick multiple sets off of Hurkacz. Getting him around coin-flip odds to grab a set off of a player he's never been beaten by in straight sets is a deal worth taking.

The Spaniard's strong return game should be able to get him into plenty of Hurkacz service games and keep the pressure on the World No. 10, and I like the matchup with the Davidovich Fokina backhand into the Hurkacz backhand.

While it's not a weakness for the favorite here, the Spaniard may be able to win those trades. He should keep this one close enough to cash this bet.

Pick: Davidovich Fokina +2.5 Sets (-110)
