The American men’s drought at the US Open will continue for at least another year.
World No. 1 Jannik Sinner defeated Taylor Fritz in straight sets — 6-3, 6-4, 7-5 — to capture his first career US Open title.
Sinner was the heavy moneyline favorite to win Sunday’s match, closing at -430. Fritz closed at +340 SU.

This marks Sinner’s second career Grand Slam trophy after winning the Australian Open earlier this year. The Italian superstar dropped only two total sets this entire tournament.
Fritz, the world No. 12, reached his first career major final at this tournament. He knocked off a pair of top-10 players Alexander Zverev and Casper Ruud, before defeating fellow American Frances Tiafoe in the semifinals. However, Fritz’s defeat to Sinner means there still hasn’t been an American male champion at the US Open since Andy Roddick in 2003.
