'This is probably my favorite tournament'
Tommy Paul won his first ATP title in Stockholm in 2021, which is why this tournament has a special place in his heart.
“I felt pretty good from the beginning of the match. It is pretty slow conditions with the balls, so I can use my speed to my advantage and make it tough for my opponent. I think I did a good job with that against Djere.”
“Obviously, I had a lot of break points I didn't convert on, and then he had one and converted it, which made it difficult for me. I was happy to get that break back and win the match.”
“Legends have won this tournament. Arthur Ashe, Stan Smith, John McEnroe. I won it in 2021, so it's a special place for me here in Stockholm. I absolutely love this tournament, and it is probably my favorite tournament. It is really great coming back here. Lovely conditions, I feel comfortable, I like the people a lot, so I feel great.”
'I want to improve even more'
The year 2024 has arguably been Tommy Paul's best year in his career, but he's aiming to improve even more, especially on clay.
“I have been on tour longer now, so maybe that's why it has clicked so well for me in 2024. I have more experience, and I know a lot of the guys I am playing against. I am improving a little bit and I have played a lot of matches this year.”
“I am still trying to improve, because I am still thinking a lot about some of the matches I lost. I am aiming to have an even better year next year and finish this year well.”
“I still need to improve on clay, as it hasn't always been my best surface, but this year I have made a lot of improvements. Roland-Garros is a really big tournament, so that's not a tournament where I want to go."
