The 2024 WNBA All-Star Weekend got started with some history on Friday night, as Allisha Gray of the Atlanta Dream won both the WNBA 3-Point Contest and the WNBA Skills Challenge, becoming the first player to win both events in the same season.
Gray beat Jonquel Jones in the finals of the 3-Point Contest and Sophie Cunningham in the finals of the Skills Challenge. Gray won the 3-point shootout by just one point, 22-21, and beat Cunningham by over two seconds.
Gray was +500 to win the 3-point contest, tied for the longest odds of any of the five competitors. She was also +275 to win the Skills Challenge, tied for the favorite in that contest after Erica Wheeler of the Indiana Fever was unable to make it to Phoenix in time due to Friday's bizarre CrowdStrike technical meltdown across the country.
While our betting experts did not pick Gray to win the 3-Point Contest, we were on the Dream guard to win the Skills Challenge.
At +500 odds to win the 3-point contest and +275 to win the skills competition, a parlay on Gray to win both of the WNBA All-Star Friday night events would have gone off in the neighborhood of +2100 (21-to-1 odds).
