Angel Reese announced Saturday evening that she will miss the remainder of the 2024 WNBA season due to a wrist injury.

The Chicago Sky ruled Reese as questionable ahead of Sunday’s matchup against the Dallas Wings. However, Reese’s ailment appears to be severe enough for her to miss the six games on the Sky’s remaining schedule, which concludes September 19.

“What a year,” Reese wrote across her social media channels. “I never would have imagined the last bucket of my rookie season would be a 3 but maybe that was God saying give them a taste of what they will be seeing more of in Year 2…"

What a year. I never would have imagined the last bucket of my rookie season would be a 3 but maybe that was God saying give them a taste of what they will be seeing more of in Year 2 lol🥲Through it all, I have showed that I belong in this league even when no one else believed.… pic.twitter.com/re1X85mWR2

"I'm filled with emotions right now that I have a season ending injury, but also filled with so much gratitude for what is next. Although this is God's timing and not mine, I am finally able to give myself a physical and mental break. 'God gives his hardest battles to his strongest soldiers.'"

The Sky selected Reese, a 6-foot-3 forward, out of LSU with the No. 7 pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft, four picks after the team selected center Kamilla Cardoso.

Reese immediately established herself as one of the league’s best rebounders, and currently leads all players in rebounds per game (13.1). Earlier this season, Reese set a WNBA record by compiling 15 consecutive double-doubles and currently leads the league in the category (26).

Reese’s impressive performances had entrenched her as the lone challenger to Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark in the Rookie of the Year race. As of Thursday, Clark was the clear favorite to win the award, listed at -2000. Reese boasted the second-shortest odds at +700.

As for the Sky, Reese’s loss presents a significant blow to their playoff hopes. Chicago enters Sunday with a 12-22 record, but are currently eighth in the league standings.

If current standings hold, the Sky would be the final team included in the WNBA playoff field. Chicago entered the weekend with the fourth-worst odds of winning the 2024 WNBA Finals, listed at +30000.

Reese has always been a topic of conversation since entering the W. Recently she announced a podcast with Playmaker, called Unapologetically Angel. The first episode was released Thursday, September 5.
