Somebody grab the thermometer, the Indiana Fever are the hottest team in sports right now.
The temperature has been rising for quite some time in Indiana. But they have not been scorching like this.
The Fever have won four straight games and eight of the last 10 games. They have jumped all the way up to No. 6 in the standings with just seven games left in the regular season and secured a playoff birth on Tuesday night.
That is not good news for sportsbooks. The Fever are by far the biggest liability at BetMGM and Fanatics to win it all this season.
"The Indiana Fever are the top selection in the WNBA Championship Winner market by handle and bet count at the Fanatics Sportsbook," a Fanatics spokesperson said. "Customers have been supporting Caitlin Clark all year and had a lot of faith in the Fever – making them the largest liability in that market."
Indiana plays the lowly Los Angeles Sparks in the only WNBA game on the docket on Wednesday night.
There are four times as many bets on the Fever to win the championship as the next-closest team at Fanatics. At BetMGM, 43.9% of the championship bets are on the Fever and bets on the Fever account for 59.7% of the handle.
The Fever were +4000 to win the championship just last week at BetMGM. Now they are +2000 to win it all.
At Fanatics, the Fever opened at +2400, slid down to +15000 in June after a putrid start and are now +2000.
Led by Caitlin Clark, who has been the WNBA Player of the Week in back-to-back weeks, the Fever fever is not going away any time soon.
