In a Friday night matchup, the WNBA's best team, the Connecticut Sun, take their talents to Las Vegas to face off against the defending champs on ION at 10 p.m. ET.
While A'ja Wilson is quietly having a historic season, the Aces find themselves swimming just about .500 with a current record of 7-6. Throughout a very uncharacteristic start, the season won't get easier especially as they navigate a tall task against the Sun.
So let's get right into my expert pick and prediction for tonight's game.
Connecticut Sun
The Connecticut Sun currently hold the best record in the league (13-1), lead the league in defensive rating, and are allowing just 90.3 opponent points per 100 possessions. They also sit at dead last in pace and possessions per 40 minute. By contrast, Las Vegas currently sits at 8th in defensive rating and are allowing 101.5 opponent points per 100 possessions.
Wilson has been producing MVP numbers all season long, but is in for a tough matchup down low between Alyssa Thomas and Bri Jones.
Still, the Sun are just 7-7 ATS this season. Their best games vs the Aces in recent history have been when they are able to slow them down and muck up their offensive rhythm. On the other hand, the Aces know that if they can come out quick and take a large lead early, it will be tough for the Sun’s offense to catch up. This spread seems appropriate, but I would lean towards the Aces especially given they are at home and have Gray back.
Las Vegas Aces
On Wednesday, the Point Gawd herself made her season debut in the Aces 94-83 win over the Seattle Storm. The Aces’ 6-6 start (4-9 ATS) to the season has left a lot to be desired but with Chelsea Gray back in the mix, the winds may be changing for the two time champs. They failed to cover six straight games before their most recent win and cover vs Seattle.
Despite Gray’s absence, the Aces’ offense has remained elite thanks in large part to incredible performances by A’ja Wilson and Jackie Young. Wilson is averaging a league best 27.9 points per game while leading the league in rebounds averaging 11.3 per game. Not only is her team second in offensive rating, but they also are first in pace. Now, that high octane offense is headed straight for a brick wall of defense.

As for the total, just three of the Sun’s 14 games this season have exceeded 163.5. Meanwhile, the Aces have only had three games go under 163.5. In the last five matchups between these teams, four of the five games saw a minimum of 171 points scored. I expect we’re in for an another over, which would make the Aces 9-5 to the over this season.
