Wings vs. Sky
Injuries are starting to pile up for the Dallas Wings, who visit the Sky for a noon tipoff on Thursday.
Maddy Siegrist is the latest Dallas frontcourt to miss some time after recently suffering a broken finger on her left hand in Monday’s loss to Minnesota.
Siegrist joins Natasha Howard on the sidelines, who remains doubtful due to a foot injury.
The 11-year veteran hasn’t played since Dallas opened the season with a win over Chicago. And if that’s not enough, the Wings' best player, Arike Ogunbowale, is questionable with an Achilles injury.
The lengthy injury report could explain why the total has dropped from 162.5 to 160.5 at some sportsbooks.
However, the early start time might also be responsible.
According to our Action Labs database, the under is 36-27-1 (57.1%) in games with an opening total of 162.5 or fewer points that start before 1:00 p.m. EST.
Moreover, this angle is 9-2-1 to the under in the past five seasons. Since BetMGM is still hanging a total of 161.5, the under is simply too good to pass up at that number.
Pick: Under 161.5 (-110)
Sparks vs. Liberty
By Joe Nelson
The 4-11 Sparks got bad news with Cameron Brink injured for the rest of the season but while her star power is undeniable, her on the court impact as a rookie was minimal. This is a grueling scheduling set-up for the Sparks facing a fifth consecutive road game but the four-game slide on this road trip has included competitive losses to Minnesota and Connecticut, two of the best teams in the WNBA this season.
This is the first meeting of the season between Los Angeles and New York and these teams will play twice in Brooklyn in the next three days. The Liberty are 12-3 with a great record but the schedule has been soft as it isn't necessarily a sure thing that New York is still a top-flight contender in the WNBA this season after making the Finals last season.
New York is 6-0 vs. Indiana and Washington this season to boost its record and has played only six games against the above .500 teams in the current standings, going 4-2 but with mostly close-game results. On Tuesday the Liberty lost in Phoenix and while the team is at home tonight, the Liberty are back at home after playing five of six on the road, including the high-profile game in Las Vegas last weekend.
The Sparks went 0-3 S/U vs. the Liberty last season but were 3-0 ATS and were similarly priced last September in Brooklyn in a seven-point loss. New York is just 6-9 ATS this season and only three times in 15 games has New York won by more than 13 points.
Two of those wins were vs. the Fever and two of the three lopsided wins for the Liberty were on the road as New York is just 1-6 ATS at home this season, facing steep lines and with an overall profile that is likely inflated from beating up on teams at the bottom of the league.
Only three times this season have the Sparks lost by a margin greater than tonight's spread and all three of those games came in the same 10-day span. New York has not matched last season's league-leading 3-point shooting numbers so far this season and New York is the worst team in the league at creating turnovers.
That is a strength for the Sparks, second in the WNBA in creating turnovers while having the fourth lowest turnover rate on offense, and a few possessions could be enough to keep Los Angeles within this hefty number.
Pick: Sparks +15.5 (-110)
Sparks vs. Liberty
Ionescu has gone over 29.5 points + rebounds + assists seven times this season, including in each of the last four games.
However, if we're expecting the Liberty to win big, this is probably an under.
The Liberty are favored by 15 points, essentially.
They have seven double-digit victories this season. In those, she's gone over 29.5 PRA just once in those games. If we think this is a blowout, Ionescu might not have the time, nor the need, to bust LA's ass.
She's awesome, but this is a high number considering what this game might turn into, especially given her track record this season.
Pick: Sabrina Ionescu Under 29.5 PTS + REB + AST (-120)
Sparks vs. Liberty
If you think this is going to be a blowout, then you have to look at unders.
Dearica Hamby is having a great individual season, but 17.5 is simply too high of a number for a game that is projected to get out of hand before too long.
Hamby has gone under 17.5 points in four straight games. She's stayed under in three of the team's six double-digit losses on the season, and in two of the team's three losses by 15+ points.
