Sun vs. Dream
The WNBA Commissioner’s Cup is underway, and after missing out on the final last season due to a head-to-head tiebreaker against the New York Liberty, the Connecticut Sun look ready to mount another challenge.
Connecticut has yet to taste defeat through seven games, and its double-digit Net Rating (11.7) is the best in the league.
Defensively, Connecticut has been tremendous, ranking second in Defensive Efficiency (92.8 points allowed per 100 possessions), which is six points better than the previous campaign (98.8).
The Sun’s first game in the Commissioner’s Cup will be on the road against the Atlanta Dream. However, the Dream are coming off a 78-74 win on Friday over the defending champion Las Vegas Aces.
Atlanta did its best to muck the game up as much as possible, with neither team shooting better than 36% from the floor.
Unfortunately, Atlanta's strategy of mucking the game up might not be as effective against a Connecticut team that thrives in such conditions.
With Atlanta possibly still on cloud nine following its victory over Las Vegas, this is a classic letdown spot, and Connecticut is too good to pass up with a moneyline of -148 at DraftKings.
Pick: Sun Moneyline -148
Fever vs. Liberty
This is a brutal spot for the Indiana Fever in a back to back after going from Indianapolis to Brooklyn after beating the Chicago Sky early on Saturday.
Caitlin Clark has gone under her point total in five of 10 games this year and was waaaaaay under the last time she played the second leg of back-to-back games, when she scored just eight points.
She's been under her point total in three of her last five games, and going into the season, we projected more value on her scoring prop unders than overs. This should be consistent with that, especially if the Liberty have Betnijah Laney-Hamilton as her primary defender again, which worked in their first meeting.
Pick: Caitlin Clark Under 18.5 Points -115
Fever vs. Liberty
By Jim Turvey
We're back folks. It hasn't been a consistent fade of Caitlin Clark this season, and she's had some great games mixed in, but Sunday is a spot to once again fade Clark.
The Liberty have the second-best defense in the W, and we saw what Betnijah Laney-Hamilton did against Caitlin in their first matchup this year. Clark get loose a little bit more in the second matchup, but most of that was in the first half before the Liberty locked in for the second half of their back-to-back set.
This time it's the Fever on a tough back-to-back having played Saturday at home against the Chicago Sky (a game that had all sorts of hullabaloo after the fact, which doesn't necessarily play a role in this cap but can't hurt).
We've mentioned the Fever's schedule time and time again this season — but for good reason. This will now be 11 games in 20 days, which is an absurd start to Caitlin Clark's career.
They'll have played two more games than anyone else in the league, and for a shooter who needs her legs, this stretch after an already short "offseason" after playing deep into March Madness will only going to make matters worse.
I like 18 as a key number, but I would also play Under 17.5 Points at even money. However, I would pay more juice for Under 18.5 Points.
