Call it the Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese effect. Call it the A’ja Wilson historic season watch.
Call it whatever you want.
The simple truth is that the WNBA’s popularity is skyrocketing in terms of off attendance, viewership and betting. There are also no sign it’ll slow down as the league announced it’s entering into a deal with DraftKings as it’s official betting partner.
According to The Athletic, the league is giving “the rights to the intellectual property of the league and its teams, as well as access to official WNBA data that can then be used for betting and daily fantasy. DraftKings will also be the presenting sponsor for the league’s new content platform that will run in September centered around the WNBA’s playoff race.”
“The WNBA has seen tremendous growth, which continues to be a bright spot in the sports world. We are proud to support the league in its efforts to continue expanding the game,” DraftKings president Matt Kalish said in a statement.
This isn't the company's first foray into professional basketball as it's had a similar deal with the NBA since 2001.
