WNBA Picks Tonight: Expert Bets for Sky vs Mystics (June 14)

I have two bets for the WNBA slate on Friday night, and they both happen to be on the same game featuring two of the league's worst teams. Let's break it down.

Sky vs. Mystics
I’m not going to sugarcoat it: The Mystics are the worst team in the league in my power ratings without either Brittney Sykes or Shakira Austin in the lineup. Washington has been trending upward recently, though, coming off their first win of the season. The game before that, the Mystics nearly pulled off an upset in New York.
The Mystics are also coming off a brutal stretch in their schedule that saw seven of their last 10 games be played on the road. One of those home games was the second leg of a back-to-back, as well.
So, while Washington is certainly a bad team, it may still be a little underrated here at home after a few days of rest.
On the other side, the Sky aren’t too much better and are maybe in a tier slightly above them. Chicago is coming off of a stretch that saw it play seven of its last eight games at home, so I think they're slightly overrated right now as a result.
I’m projecting this closer to a pick‘em.

Sky vs. Mystics
The No. 6 overall pick in this year’s draft has been trending upward lately. She's scored double digits in three of the last five games, stepping up with Shakira Austin’s hip injury keeping her out of the lineup.
This might be the perfect matchup for her to go off.
The Sky allow the most points per game on shots inside 5 feet, which is where Edwards takes most of her shots. She also gets to the free throw line at a pretty high rate, and the Sky allow their opponents to get to the line at the third-highest rate.
It’s also a rare Mystics game that could be competitive until the final buzzer, so Edwards should play about 30 minutes.
I'm projecting her closer to 12 with a 62% chance to clear 10.5. I also think it’s worth sprinkling some on her to score 15+ points at +320. I'm projecting that closer to +250.
