There's only one game scheduled in the WNBA today, and it's on the early side with tip off set for 3 p.m. ET. Check out my WNBA player props for Connecticut Sun vs Washington Mystics on Saturday, August 31, featuring predictions for DeWanna Bonner and Brittney Sykes.
WNBA Player Props for Saturday, August 31
- DeWanna Bonner Over 1.5 Made Three Pointers (+102, FanDuel)
- DeWanna Bonner First Sun Basket (+280, FanDuel)
- Brittney Sykes Over 14.5 Points (+102, FanDuel)
Sun vs Mystics Player Prop: Green Light for DeWanna Bonner
Per Synergy Sports. Washington’s defense allows the third most catch-and-shoot attempts per game, along with the second most unguarded catch-and-shoot looks. Additionally, they surrender the second largest jump-shot frequency.
That’s a green flag for DeWanna Bonner, who is a high-volume 3-point shooter. She’s not the most efficient player by any means, but her volume should be enough to facilitate two made threes despite potential shooting woes.
These are Bonner’s 3-point stats in three matchups against Washington this season:
- 0/6
- 3/5
- 2/9
That’s an average of 6.6 long-range attempts, which would require a 30.3% conversion rate to notch two makes – definitely feasible for Bonner. I recommend playing this line at three quarters of a unit, down to -105 odds.
Pick: DeWanna Bonner Over 1.5 Made Three Pointers (+102)
Sun vs Mystics Player Prop: Double Down on DeWanna Bonner
The All-Star has taken Connecticut’s first shot of the game in 34.4% of her starts. This mark leads the team and is one of the larger percentages across the WNBA.
As stated above, it’s a quality matchup for Bonner’s jump-shot heavy diet. Combine that with desirable first basket usage, and Bonner to score the first basket for Connecticut becomes a solid bet, especially at +280 odds (26.32% implied probability).
I would play this at half a unit, down to +250 odds.
Pick: DeWanna Bonner First Sun Basket (+280)
Sun vs Mystics Player Prop: Expect Brittney Sykes to Lead Scoring Charge
Although Connecticut’s defense does an excellent job of deterring rim attempts, opponents average the third-best field goal percentage at the rim. Brittney Sykes is shooting a massive 73.5 FG% in the restricted area on nearly four attempts per game, which is highly impressive given her 5’9” frame.
Shakira Austin’s injury not only adds 10.5 field goal attempts per game that must be dispersed somewhere, but it removes an obstacle in the paint. Driving lanes may be clearer as a result because opposing centers cannot heavily sag off of Austin and dare her to shoot.
Sykes has notched 16+ shots in three of her past four games. Look for her to lead Washington’s scoring charge in this matchup. I would play this at three quarters of a unit, down to -105 odds.
Pick: Brittney Sykes Over 14.5 Points (+102)
