The WNBA scheduled no games on Labor Day, but the league is back in action with a four-game slate for Tuesday, September 3. It includes a matchup between the Atlanta Dream and Phoenix Mercury, which features two decorated veteran centers.

Keep reading for my WNBA same game parlay for tonight's Dream vs. Mercury game on Tuesday, September 3 at 10 p.m. ET.

Phoenix deters rim attempts at a high rate with Brittney Griner anchoring its defense, but perimeter shooters run wild against it.

Opponents average the most 3-point and above-the-break attempts per game versus the Mercury, along with the most catch-and-shoot (C&S) and unguarded C&S shots per game, via Synergy Sports.

All-Star Allisha Gray is therefore set up for an explosive outing. She averages five shots per game from 3-point range and knocks them down at a respectable 35.4% clip. For context, 33.7% is league-average efficiency.

Gray has faced the Mercury three times this season, and these were her 3-point stats:

  • 3-for-4 (no Griner)
  • 3-for-6
  • 3-for-8

It’s worth noting that Griner missed the first matchup when Gray only saw four looks. The other two games are more indicative of Gray’s potential volume because of Griner’s interior deterrence.

On the flip side, Tina Charles may struggle to make a significant scoring impact. Per Synergy Sports, the Mercury allow the third-fewest rim attempts and second-fewest around-the-basket attempts per game.

Although Griner is on the wrong side of 30, she remains a defensive force that can contain Charles.

The 35-year-old has notched 14 and 12 points against Griner this season. I expect Charles to once again approach — but not break — this 15.5-point line due to reduced volume and poor efficiency.

Also, Charles has only scored 16+ points in 13-of-31 games, or 41.9%.

It’s not like hitting the under would be abnormal.

Atlanta’s offense is a mess. It ranks last in offensive rating and 11th in effective field goal percentage, so there should be plenty of available defensive boards for Phoenix.

Given that the Dream will likely take plenty of outside shots, that’s especially true.

Griner towers over everyone, but she doesn't dominate the glass. Her 6.3 rebounds per game checks in at 19th best across the W.

Kahleah Copper picks up some of the slack, and she's notched four-plus rebounds in 23-of-33 games (69.6%).

Meanwhile, Copper recorded five, six and six boards against the Mercury this year.

Look for her to heavily contribute on the glass and clean up Atlanta’s missed shots.
