The W’s one-game slate on Thursday features the New York Liberty versus the Wings in a rematch of Tuesday’s high-scoring bout.

Since the Dallas Wings have officially been eliminated from playoff contention, they could be even worse on the defensive end of the floor than usual.

While the Liberty don’t have much to play for at this point, as they have all but locked up the top seed, they will still want to keep their momentum heading into the WNBA Playoffs.

All signs indicate that Sabrina Ionescu, Breanna Stewart, and Jonquel Jones will take the floor on Thursday, which means it will be another rough night for the Wings.

On Tuesday, New York posted 105 points in a 14-point road win against Dallas; the Liberty shot roughly 54% from the field, 55% from 3-point land, and 93% from the charity stripe.

At this point, the Wings’ defense has been an interesting case study for how not to play defense.

This season, they rank last in defensive rating, opponent field goal percentage, opponent effective field goal percentage, and opponent points in the paint.

Additionally, they are 11th in opponent fastbreak points and 10th in opponent second-chance points and opponent 3-point percentage.

Tonight, it should be a similar story to Tuesday, with the Liberty scoring at will and blowing out a Dallas team that has allowed three of its past five opponents to eclipse 100 points.

The Wings and Liberty have faced off three times this season, but Ionescu was only available for the most recent game on Tuesday.

In that game, Ionescu recorded 11 assists, her second-highest assist total of the season, in just shy of 26 minutes. It was an incredible outing for the star guard.

However, even more notable about her performance was that she took only nine (9) field goal attempts, her fewest in a game all season.

Ionescu is one of the best shooters in the W, but she is also a phenomenal facilitator and passer. On Tuesday against Dallas, she passed up good looks for great looks. on the offensive end of the floor.

In fact, Ionescu has been doing that a lot recently, clearing this assist line (8) in three of her past four games.

Expect her to do the same for a Liberty team that wants to enter the postseason playing their best, most selfless basketball.
