Breanna Stewart First Liberty Basket (+250)
The reigning league MVP has taken New York’s first shot in 34.6% of her starts. Not only does this team's first attempt percentage mark lead the Liberty, but it also ranks seventh best across the WNBA (minimum 10 starts).
Along with excellent first basket usage, this is a desirable matchup for Breanna Stewart. Dallas’ defense surrenders the second-most paint attempts per game and the largest paint field goal percentage. Satou Sabally’s return adds size to the unit, but the Wings should continue to be underwhelming from an interior defensive standpoint.
Stewart averages the most shots per game inside the paint for New York, and the fact that she can score from anywhere on the court only boosts her high-volume scoring pathways.
It’s worth noting that these teams played on Tuesday, and Stewart racked up 22 field goal attempts while scoring New York’s first basket — although she didn’t get the first shot.
Now, Sabrina Ionescu missed that contest, which is important context. The All-Star guard ranks 11th in the WNBA in team’s first attempt percentage and barely averages the most points per game for New York. She is questionable to suit up in Thursday’s rematch due to a neck injury.
To me, this line is worth playing whether Ionescu plays or sits, but Stewart’s chances definitely increase with Ionescu sidelined. To find the prop, click the “Quick Bets” tab and then the “First Team Basket Scorer” category.
As a side note, Stewart to score the first basket via free throws at +5000 odds on FanDuel is worth a small sprinkle to me. She notched 11 free-throw attempts on Tuesday, and her projected large amount of shots near the basket should be conducive to getting to the line. Satou Sabally 2+ Made 3s (-200)
Satou Sabally made her season debut two games ago, but there has been no sign of rust. She’s averaging 22 points, 6.5 rebounds and 5.5 assists per game. Additionally, the reigning Most Improved Player is 8-for-14 from 3 through two games. Even with efficiency regression, Sabally’s volume should be enough to offer a solid floor.
The Liberty are in the middle of the pack for opponent 3-point attempts per game, so it’s a decent matchup for Sabally. Dallas will need to launch from deep too in order to keep pace with New York’s offense.
