The WNBA will rebound from a one-day absence with three games on Tuesday, Aug. 20. To kick off the slate, the Dallas Wings and New York Liberty meet for the first time this season. Check out my same-game parlay for this matchup that features two legs at +220 odds.
WNBA Same-Game Parlay for Wings vs. Liberty
- New York Liberty -13.5 (-110)
- Jonquel Jones 15+ Points (-102)
Parlay Odds: +220 on FanDuel
Let’s kick off the parlay by backing New York to cover.
New York Liberty -13.5 (-110)
Dallas has the worst defensive rating in the league and is especially weak defensively near the basket. Wings opponents average the second-most paint attempts per game against them and have the highest field goal percentage in the paint (57.4%). Additionally, Dallas surrenders the second-most points per shot at the rim, according to Synergy Sports.
Although the Liberty are not a relatively high-volume interior team, their offense paces the WNBA in field goal percentage in the paint. New York boasts a pair of former MVP bigs in Breanna Stewart and Jonquel Jones who should do serious damage here, while Sabrina Ionescu also thrives from within 15 feet of the basket.
Meanwhile, New York averages the second-most points per possession in transition, and Dallas’ defense allows this play type to occur at the third-largest rate. The Wings cannot limit some of these possessions with their elite offensive rebounding either because the Liberty dominate the defensive glass.
On the other end, the Wings are an extremely poor jump-shooting team and instead prefer to operate around the basket. Unfortunately for them, New York’s superb defense holds teams to the second-lowest points per-shot average at the rim.
Dallas’ careless offense also turns the ball over at the highest rate, which is a death sentence against New York’s stifling defense.
Overall, it’s a contest between the best and worst teams in the WNBA according to Net Rating. Look for the Liberty to trample them here and cover the 13.5-point spread. Blowouts are not exactly foreign to Dallas, as five of their past seven losses have been by 14 or more points.
Plus, Odyssey Sims is no longer with the Wings. Across nine games, she averaged 17.2 points and 5.6 assists per game on an absurd 61.8 true shooting percentage. It’s yet another red flag for Dallas.
Jonquel Jones 15+ Points (-102)
As stated above, New York’s bigs have a juicy matchup here, and I expect Jones to capitalize.
Jones has played eight games this season against the current top four teams that allow the highest field goal percentage in the paint (Dallas, Washington, Phoenix and Connecticut). In those eight games, Jones scored at least 15 points in six of them and 20 or more three times. She also reached double-digit field goal attempts in seven of the eight games and averaged 12.3 attempts per game.
Look for Jones to get plenty of volume, and she should have great shot quality against Dallas’ porous defense.
