The World Baseball Classic returns this spring with 20 countries competing, including stacked squads from both the Dominican Republic and USA.

This is the fifth World Baseball Classic all-time. Japan won the first two tournaments in 2006 and 2009. Dominican Republic won in 2013, while USA won in 2017. The tournament was originally supposed to come back in 2021, but was canceled because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The teams are broken up into four pools of five teams each. Preliminary rounds will take place March 8-15 in Taichung, Taiwan, Tokyo, Japan, Phoeniz, Arizona, and Miami, Florida.

All games will be broadcast on the FOX Sports family of networks.

The pools are broken up as follows:

Pool A

Taichung, Taiwan on March 8-12

  • Chinese Taipei
  • Netherlands
  • Cuba
  • Italy
  • Panama

Pool B

Tokyo, Japan on March 9-13

  • Japan
  • South Korea
  • Australia
  • China
  • Czech Republic

Pool C

  • Great Britain

Pool D

  • Puerto Rico
  • Venezuela
  • Dominican Republic
  • Israel
  • Nicaragua

The first- and second-place finishers in Pools A and B will meet in the quarterfinals on March 15 and 16 in Tokyo, while the first- and second-place finishers in Pools C and D will meet in Miami on March 17-18.

The semifinals will take place on March 19 and 20, with the championship game scheduled for March 21. All three of those games will take place in Miami.

The Dominican Republic has been installed as the early betting favorite at +230, and it's easy to see why. The team is loaded with talent, including Julio Rodriguez, Jose Ramirez, Juan Soto, Vladimir Guerrero Jr., Rafael Devers, Sandy Alcantara, Manny Machado and more.
