2024 World Series Odds: Dodgers, Braves, Astros Early Favorites Ahead of Spring Training

The Super Bowl is in the books and pitchers and catchers have reported, which means it’s officially time to gear up for the  MLB season with a look at the 2024 World Series odds ahead of spring training.

The hot stove has cooled, but several key free agents have yet to sign including Cody Bellinger, Blake Snell, Jordan Montgomery, Matt Chapman, J.D. Martinez and more. Their signings will likely shake up the futures market, but unless another major move comes, we'll likely head into the baseball season with the Los Angeles Dodgers are favorites to win the world series.

With spring training upon us, here’s a current look at the 2024 World Series odds, American League and National League pennant odds and preseason odds for every potential World Series matchup.

Favorites

The Dodgers (once again) flamed out in last year’s playoffs but were the clear winners of the offseason. They won the Shohei Ohtani sweepstakes, and he’ll slot into a murderer’s row lineup that includes Mookie Betts, Freddie Freeman, Will Smith and more. L.A. also added Yoshinobu Yamamoto and Tayler Glasnow to shore up their rotation, which was a weakness in 2024. They’ll also get Walker Buehler back after he missed all of 2023 rehabbing from Tommy John surgery.

The Browns won an MLB-best 104 games a year ago, but were eliminated early in the playoffs by the rival Phillies. Instead of standing pat and running it back with the same roster, the Braves made a bevy of trades to keep pace with the Dodgers. They acquired Chris Sale and Jarred Kelenic, and beefed up their bullpen by adding Reynaldo Lopez, Joe Jimenez and Aaron Bummer.

The Astros largely stood pat over the offseason, their biggest move was adding closer Josh Hader. Meanwhile, a lineup that score the fifth-most runs a year ago remains largely intact, headlined by Yordan Alverez, Jose Altuve, Kyle Tucker and Alex Bregman.

The Yankees swung for the fences after missing the playoffs for the first time since 2016. They acquired Juan Soto from the Padres, giving the Bronx Bombers arguably the best one-two punch in the league alongside Aaron Judge. They also pulled off a rare trade with the Red Sox to acquire Alex Verdugo, and signed Marcus Stroman to slot into a rotation headlined by reigning Cy Young winner Gerrit Cole.

Mid-Tier Teams

The defending champion Rangers have the fifth-shortest odds to win the World Series heading into 2024. They were relatively quiet over the winter, with their biggest move signing Tyler Mahle to shore up a staff with major question marks. Max Scherzer and Jacob DeGrom will miss large chunks of the season recovering from injuries.

The Orioles won an American league best 101 games, but their inexperience showed in the postseason as they were swept by the Rangers in the American League Division Series. They have the consensus best farm system in baseball, and are expected to have some of the league’s top prospects make their way to the big leagues this season. More importantly, they traded for former Cy Young winner and three-time all-star Corbin Burnes to headline their rotation.

Philadelphia surged down the stretch last year and looked like a team of destiny before falling to the Diamondbacks in the National League Championship Series. Their biggest offseason move was re-signing ace pitcher Aaron Nola.

Long Shots

Last year’s Cinderella darling Diamondbacks have only the 14^th best odds to win the World Series despite winning last year’s National League Pennant. They had a busy offseason, adding more pop to the lineup by trading for Eugenio Suarez and signing Joc Pederson. They also signed Eduardo Rodriguez to join a rotation that includes Zac Gallen, Merrill Kelly and Brandon Pfaadt.

The Mets were a massive disappointment last year, failing to make the playoffs despite owning the highest payroll in league history. They supposedly have their eye on contending in 2025, but return a potent lineup in 2024. Owner Steve Cohen is one of the riches owners in baseball, and if New York is in contention come mid-summer, it reasons to think he’ll be willing to make major moves for a postseason push.

The Reds were arguably the most pleasant surprise of 2023 behind youngsters Elly De La Cruz, Matt McLain, Spencer Steer and more. The pitching was suspect but was also hit hard by injuries. They boast two of the more exciting young starters in Nick Lodolo and Hunter Greene, and added Frankie Montas this offseason to the mix. The Reds play in a wide-open NL central, which boosts their chances of making the playoffs.
