Braves vs Diamondbacks Preview & Prediction
The Atlanta Braves' lineup was long overdue for some positive regression, and we have seen it come recently. They have won seven of their last 10, including the first two games of this series, when they've outscored the Diamondbacks 16 to 9.
The Braves' offensive production has been stellar, and it's due to be even better as they rank fourth in xWOBACON and are due to see their team batting average rise by 15 points.
However, it's tough to expect another eight-run performance for the third game in a row, especially when they have to contend with Brandon Pfaadt for the first half of this ballgame. Pfaadt is off to a great start, having won four of his five starts while posting a 2.73 ERA and 1.01 WHIP.
Pfaadt has made some pitch arsenal adjustments, throwing his changeup more, and it has led to a career-high ground-ball rate. So, while we may see Pfaadt post a rough box score in the future, if he can keep generating ground balls and contain the lefties, we should see his success continue.
On the other side of this matchup, we have a Diamondbacks lineup that still could not pull out a win even with a historic four-home-run performance from Eugenio Suarez last night.
The Diamondbacks are also a lineup due for more results in the power department as they rank in the top seven in xSLG and xWOBA. However, we won't see any of that today, as they are tasked with a potential NL Cy Young candidate, Spencer Schwellenbach.
Schewellenbach burst onto the scene in 2024, finished the year strong, and has not looked back. He comes into this outing sporting a 2.56 ERA and 0.92 WHIP.
Like Pfaadt, I have high expectations for Schewellenbach in this matchup. His command is excellent, and so is his ability to keep the ball on the ground when he does give up contact.
Braves vs Diamondbacks Prediction, Betting Analysis
While both of these lineups are due to put up runs, we saw plenty of that last night, and the starting pitchers in this matchup have the tools to contain these lineups by generating whiffs and ground balls.
Schwellenbach is certainly the A-side when it comes to posting zeroes, but don't be surprised if Pfaadt matches him at least the first time through the Braves' order.
Take the under in the first five.
Pick: F5 Under 4.5 (-115)
Moneyline
I am avoiding the moneyline.
Run Line (Spread)
I am also avoiding the run line.
Over/Under
I see value on the under, although I am targeting the under only in the first five innings.
