The Los Angeles Dodgers (7-0) host the Atlanta Braves (0-6) on Wednesday, April 2, 2025. First pitch from Dodger Stadium is scheduled for 8:38 p.m. ET; the game will be broadcast on FDSSO.

The undefeated Dodgers go for their third consecutive series sweep on Wednesday night. Unsurprisingly, they are heavy favorites as Braves vs Dodgers odds (via BetMGM) have the Dodgers as -250 moneyline favorites and Braves as +200 underdogs. The over/under is set at 8 (-118o / -102u). The Dodgers are -115 to cover the run line (-1.5) and the Braves are -105 to cover the spread (+1.5).

Atlanta Braves Betting Preview: Bad Spot for Elder

The Braves will be forced to give Bryce Elder yet another crack in the starting rotation after losing Reynaldo Lopez to injury, and we know all too well just who he is.

Elder is coming off a tough spring where he allowed seven runs on 14 hits and five walks over 12 2/3 innings, and a brutal first start down in Triple-A where he was torched for five runs over 2 2/3. Within those frames, he's now allowed three home runs — something that you never want to have an issue with when you step to the Dodgers.

Elder pitches primarily to contact with a low 20.4% strikeout rate and upper-tier ground-ball rate in 2024, but he's failed to limit walks over his career which has made his brutal Expected Batting Average — sitting over .270 in the past two seasons — play up. He's loading the bases with runners any way he can an has too frequently coughed up loud contact.

Against this team a season ago, he watched three balls leave Dodger Stadium as he yielded seven earned over 3 1/3, something that is a pretty good indicator of how bad this matchup is.

L.A. loves to hit ground-ball arms, and it's a patient team which will further apply the pressure.

Los Angeles Dodgers Betting Preview: Early Season Snell

Blake Snell is someone who I'm expecting to have some reasonable growing pains in his first season with the Dodgers. He's spent the past few seasons pitching in friendly parks — working in San Diego and San Francisco — and now he finds himself in a much tougher environment for an arm who has had issues coughing up long balls.

Snell's first start was a tough one. He did face a potent Detroit Tigers lineup, but it's one which has struggled against left-handers and frequently strikes out. The good news is that he didn't allow a home run over his five innings of two-run ball, but he did walk four and strike out just two.

Atlanta's offense is the coldest in the league right now, but there's too much talent up and down this order and far too many patient power hitters to make this a comfortable spot.

Snell infamously struggled to a 10.42 ERA though his first five starts in San Francisco last season and came out of the gates with a 5.40 ERA through nine outings in 2023, so a slow start is nothing new.

I'm continuing to proceed with caution.

Braves vs Dodgers Prediction, Betting Analysis

Atlanta had a down year at the plate in 2024, but still managed to rank fifth in Isolated Power (ISO) next to acceptable strikeout and walk rates which improved as the year went on — and came without several of its key hitters.

Now, other than the suspended Jurickson Profar and rehabbing Ronald Acuña Jr., this team is healthy and expecting plenty more out of the current season. While the Braves haven't exactly hit the ball in the early going, they've been up against some superior pitching and along the way have walked in an impressive 11.7% of plate appearances to rank third in the league.

Atlanta's patient eye at the plate should help it generate some momentum at the dish in this one, and with the number of players who can impact the baseball and have hit Snell well in the past, I expect the left-hander's search for his best stuff to persist.

On the other side of this one, the Dodgers continue to produce at the plate off the back of walks and home runs — two areas where Elder is incredibly vulnerable. This isn't even L.A.'s final form offensively, and a friendly contact-oriented pitcher may unlock a truly devastating night for Atlanta.

There will be plenty of runs scored in this one. I'm not shying away just because Atlanta has had a handful of bad games.

Pick: Over 8 (-118) | Play to Over 8.5 (-110)

Moneyline

The sharp money is hitting the Dodgers here, but it's important to note that the Braves fit one of our PRO systems on Early Season Dogs. It's produced a 10% ROI.

Run Line (Spread)

The Dodgers ranked third in the league in cover rate as home favorites a season ago and has now hit the run line in four straight contests.

Over/Under

The Dodgers are 4-3 to the Over through the early going, but with Atlanta sitting 1-4-1 to that side of the total it's no surprise some sharp money is hitting the Under here.
