The Detroit Tigers (3-4) host the Chicago White Sox (2-5) for the second game of their three-game series on Saturday, April 5. First pitch from Comerica Park is scheduled for 1:10 p.m. ET; the game will be broadcast on FanDuel Sports Detroit, Chicago Sports Network and MLB.TV.

Riley Greene and Kerry Carpenter combined for three home runs in the series opener to help lift the Tigers to victory. They'll look to take the series behind right-hander Reese Olson; the White Sox will start Davis Martin as they try to end a three-game losing streak.

White Sox vs Tigers Preview, Predictions Saturday

White Sox Betting Preview

Right-hander Davis Martin takes the mound for the White Sox, and he should serve as a good sell-high candidate. Martin didn’t surrender an earned run over six innings in his first start of 2025.

That said, it was an incredibly fortunate outing for the right-hander, and his underlying metrics from that performance suggest regression is looming. Across those six innings, Martin posted a 6.29 expected ERA and .336 expected batting average.

Furthermore, Martin’s first two seasons in MLB suggest we should quickly sell high on him. Over that span, he produced a 3-11 record with a 4.61 ERA.

Following Martin is a fade-worthy bullpen. Last season, Chicago’s relief staff ranked in the bottom three in ERA, FIP, xFIP and WAR.

Tigers Betting Preview

Meanwhile, right-hander Reese Olson gets the ball for the Tigers. Olson was shelled in his first outing of the season, surrendering four runs in under five innings.

A major issue throughout Olson’s career has been his inability to limit hard contact. Last season, he ranked in the 16th percentile in average exit velocity and the 12th percentile in hard-hit rate.

Like Martin, Olson is followed by a vulnerable relief staff. In 2024, Detroit’s bullpen ranked in the bottom half of the league in xFIP.

The good news for Detroit is that the Tigers can put up runs. This season, they rank in the top 10 in hits per game, batting average, on-base percentage, slugging percentage, and OPS.

White Sox vs Tigers Prediction, Betting Analysis

While Detroit is likely to score, the White Sox are also capable of putting up runs of their own. Entering this matchup, Chicago ranks 15th in slugging percentage and eighth in home runs.

The Tigers will likely produce most of the scoring in this matchup, so we just need a couple of runs from the White Sox to send this total over 7.5. Given Chicago’s power numbers this season, as well as Olson’s inability to limit hard contact, that task is certainly achievable.

Finally, there have been nine or more total runs scored in five of the past seven meetings between these two teams.

Pick: Over 7.5 (+100 | Play to -105)

Moneyline

I lean toward Detroit, but don't want to lay -225 with Olson.

Run Line (Spread)

I like the Tigers to cover, but I don't want to be on them for the same reason listed above.

Over/Under

As mentioned, I'm betting Over 7.5 at +100.
