The Highlights
- Jacob deGrom's strikeout prop was set at 7 tonight against the Braves.
- He struck out 6 through 4.0 shutout innings of 2-hit ball, but never threw another pitch.
The over/under for Jacob deGrom strikeouts tonight was set at 7. He almost hit that total through 3.0 innings, as he reached six Ks after striking out the side in the 3rd inning.
When he came back out for the fourth inning in a 0-0 game, those who bet the over 7 deGrom Ks sat back and kicked their feet kicked up — ready for a sweat-free winner. After all, they only needed Jake to record one K to push — and two to cash.
And, while deGrom didn’t record any strikeouts in the fourth, he had only thrown 46 pitches of 2-hit shutout ball (no walks, either). It seemed more like a matter of "when" deGrom would record 7+ Ks, and not "if."
But, then, fate would have her way. After getting through that fourth inning, deGrom headed straight for the tunnel — and never returned.

It's since been diagnosed as a hyperextended right elbow. Although, in the minds of any over-seven bettors, it's more of a hyperextended moose. Again, he finished with a final line of 4.0 innings (46 pitches), 2 hits, 0 walks and 6 strikeouts. Unbelievable.
As a Mets fan, I'm deeply disturbed by the injury — and I salute any fellow fans who also lost on the deGrom over 7 strikeouts prop. Double whammy.
Not DeGrom. Ughhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

As of this moment, the Braves lead 7-0 at the end of the 8th inning. Chalk up another moose to the deGrom injury if this one goes over the total.
Update: Braves won 7-0 — which chased away the potential double moose.
