Are the Detroit Tigers the team of destiny?

The improbable Tigers swept the Houston Astros in two games and now find themselves in the American League Division Series.

The implied odds that the Tigers would make the playoffs in early August was +50000, but even that was too generous. In many major American sportsbooks, that option was off the board entirely.

The Tigers are now +750 at DraftKings to win the World Series. They are 11 wins away from pulling off the unthinkable.

At the start of September, the Tigers were as long as +10000 to win the American League pennant. Just seven games away from doing so, the Tigers are now +350 at DraftKings to play in the World Series.

The Tigers will face the Cleveland Guardians in the ALDS. They are not as big of underdogs as one might expect. The Guardians opened as -120 favorites while the Tigers are +120 in the series.

For Game 1, the Guardians are -142 on the moneyline while the Tigers are +120.

The key to Game 1 will be if the Tigers go with superstar Tarik Skubal on the mound. Skubal has been one of the best pitchers in baseball this season. He pitched in Game 1 of the Wild Card, which would mean he would be pitching on four days rest in Game 1.
