The Los Angeles Dodgers host the Detroit Tigers for the series finale of their interleague series on Saturday, March 29. First pitch from Dodger Stadium is scheduled for 9:10 p.m. ET; the game will be broadcast on SportsNet LA, FanDuel Sports Detroit, and MLB.TV.

Prized offseason acquisition Roki Sasaki will make his first Dodgers start stateside opposite the talented Reese Olson, looking to bring home a sweep for the defending champions, and one key injury could make the task at hand a bit easier.

Tigers Betting Preview: No Gleyber for Tigers

It's been a positive series for the Tigers, even if they haven't come up with a win in the first two games. Their bullpen twice blew what looked to be a hard-fought victory on Friday, and once again fell victim to one of the best lineups in baseball on Thursday.

Reese Olson, a pitcher of a different variety, will start Saturday's game. He, unlike Tarik Skubal and Jack Flaherty, gets his outs on ground balls instead of hunting strikeouts. He's coming off a solid 2024 campaign where he took a huge step forward in pitching to a 3.64 Expected ERA and once again held opponents to a below-average walk rate.

Pitching to ground balls against the Dodgers came with a slight dip in production for opposing hurlers in 2024, but as we've seen through two games, it's the home run that has victimized Detroit the most, having out-hit L.A. through two games, so perhaps he'll be set up for success.

One crucial bit of news here is that Gleyber Torres exited Friday's game with what appeared to be a leg injury, which he picked up while hitting a big home run late. He stayed in the game for a bit, but if he's ultimately sidelined for this one, Detroit will be missing a big bat atop the order and will deploy the struggling Javier Baez instead.

Dodgers Betting Preview: Sasaki Is Still Adjusting

Sasaki had a so-so first start against the Chicago Cubs in Japan, pitching to a .130 Expected Batting Average when it was all said and done but racking up five walks to just three strikeouts over three innings of one-run ball.

The walks are a particular concern for a strikeout-oriented pitcher like Sasaki, as is the fact that he recorded just a 33.3% ground-ball rate. The sample is incredibly slim, but we know that jumping to this level almost always comes with an initial hit to one's strikeout rate. For a pitcher known to rack up punchouts, what's happening on contact will be important to monitor.

Detroit has hit lefties a lot harder than righties with its lefty-heavy lineup, and in a series where they've recorded four more hits than L.A., the script could easily flip on Saturday.

The Dodgers have hit just .223 as a team through four games, going a perfect 4-0 off the back of nine home runs and some solid starts for Shohei Ohtani, Mookie Betts, and Will Smith. Other than that, it would seem this lineup is still shaking off the rust.

Tigers vs Dodgers Prediction, Moneyline Betting Analysis

I'm once again going to back the Tigers, and I'll be content to lose on them in every game this series. This was an above-average lineup a season ago versus right-handers, and it's no surprise given they have two of the most dangerous left-handed hitters in the American League atop the order in Riley Greene and Kerry Carpenter.

Sasaki's command issues could persist against a Tigers team that finished 12th in walk rate in the second half last season. While Detroit did strike out plenty, I still think the jury is out on how many strikeouts Sasaki can rack up through his first couple of months in the big leagues with the change in competition.

If he continues pitching to fly balls, a trend we saw develop for the two most lauded Japanese arms last year in Shota Imanaga and Yoshi Yamamoto in 2024, Sasaki may play right into the power bats scattered throughout this order. Olson, meanwhile, should have just as much success as Skubal and Flaherty—if not more—by throwing strikes and inducing contact against an extremely patient lineup.

Pick: Tigers ML +185

Moneyline

We've tracked some sharp money hitting the Tigers here, even if a very slim number of tickets are coming in on the road underdogs.

Run Line (Spread)

The Dodgers ranked third in the league with a near-52% hit rate on the run line as home favorites a season ago and have gone 3-1 to the run line this season.

Over/Under

The Dodgers have hit the Over in three straight games, but with Olson refusing to give up many longballs, I think this game could sneak under the total. That's where we've tracked some sharp money as well.

Tigers vs Dodgers Betting Trends

  • 99% of the bets and 93% of the money are on the Dodgers moneyline
  • 99% of the bets and 98% of the money are on the OVER
  • 90% of the bets and 92% of the money are on the Dodgers to cover the run line (-1.5)
