Tigers vs Mariners Preview: Predictions & Parlay

The Detroit Tigers and Seattle Mariners will clash from Seattle on Monday Night.

The Tigers are 0-3 after being swept by the defending champions, the Los Angeles Dodgers. Detroit will attempt to bounce back and earn its first win of the season on the road tonight.

The Tigers were one of the best stories in baseball last season. They shockingly made the playoffs and then defeated the Houston Astros in the Wild Card round.

Manager A.J. Hinch has done an outstanding job since joining this team and hopes to make a playoff push again this season. Detroit has made the playoffs just once since 2014.

Veteran Manuel Margot led the Tigers by batting .556 in the opening weekend series. First baseman Spencer Torkelson added four hits in the series against the Dodgers. First-year Tiger Gleyber Torres launched his first home run of the season. Torres did not play Sunday due to a rib injury.

Jackson Jobe will patrol the rubber tonight. Jobe has pitched four Major League innings in his career and is considered one of baseball's best young arms.

Seattle split the opening series with the Oakland Athletics (2-2). The Mariners have reached the playoffs just once since 2002, when they were swept in the 2022 ALDS. Despite being an above-average team over the last two years, they're yet to find their way into the postseason.

The biggest issue for Seattle has been their offensive production, ranking 20th in runs per game last season (4.17).

Veteran Jorge Polanco led the team with five hits, including one home run, in the opening weekend series. Julio Rodriguez launched a game-winning two-run home run yesterday. Catcher Cal Raleigh enjoyed the best year of his career a season ago, blasting 34 home runs and driving 100 runs. Emerson Hancock will toe the rubber tonight. Hancock went 4-4 last season with an ERA of 4.75.

I predict the Tigers will earn their first win of the season on the road tonight. Despite the losses, Detroit played well in its opening series against the Dodgers. Games one and two were coin-flip games that did not go the Tigers' way and Jobe will deliver a solid start tonight against a struggling Mariners offense.

The 22-year-old has elite swing-and-miss stuff and draws a favorable matchup tonight. The Mariners have the highest whiff rate against right-handed pitchers in a small sample size and rank fourth in the MLB with 41 strikeouts.

Also, look out for Riley Greene, who remains the best hitter in the Tigers lineup despite struggling in the opening season series. The 24-year-old hit .280 against right-handed pitching last season and has a favorable matchup against Hancock tonight.

Pick: Tigers Moneyline
