The Dodgers seem like they're starting to roll, but they're heading back out on the road again, where they're 6-5 on the season.
After a postponement of their series opener Friday night, they will finally get their series started with Game 1 of a doubleheader against the Cubs Saturday afternoon.
After winning their opening series, the Cubs have been doing the opposite of winning since then. They've been losing.
The Cubs welcome the National League West-leading Los Angeles Dodgers, and the deck looks pretty stacked against them this weekend.
Clayton Kershaw takes the hill for the Dodgers, and the Cubs will counter with Drew Smyly. It's going to be a cold and windy Game 1, which should make things interesting.
Dodgers Dominating in May
The Dodgers just swept a short two-game series over their rival Giants at home this week, and now they embark on a brief six-day road trip against the Cubs and Pirates.
This could be a great opportunity for the Dodgers to create some distance between themselves and the rest of the pack in the NL West.
So far in May, the Dodgers are 3-0 with an 18-5 run differential.
Clayton Kershaw has pitched well on the road so far, and in bad weather against a poor offense, he should be able to put the Dodgers in a solid position to win. In 12 innings, Kershaw has posted a 0.75 ERA and a 0.68 FIP on the road this season.
He'll be taking on an offense that's 26th in team wRC+ in MLB against LHP at home. It should be a fun day for them.
Cubs Continue to Struggle
Smyly gets the ball for the Cubs in Game 1, and although he hasn't pitched much at home this season, his lone home start was a pretty poor one against a pretty poor team.
Smyly surrendered four earned runs over five innings against the Pirates. Now, he will be taking on a Dodgers offense that is fifth on the road in team wRC+ against LHP this season — one spot ahead of the… Pirates? That can't be right.
It's true, but if Smyly can make the Pirates offense look good, it's hard to imagine what the Dodgers offense may do in this situation.
The Cubs are also 3-7 in their last 10 games and 4-8 at home. This just isn't shaping up to be a good situation for them to get back on track.
Dodgers-Cubs Pick
Considering the Dodgers are good and the Cubs are not good, the Dodgers moneyline doesn't have great value here.
Even though the Dodgers are only 6-5 on the road so far this season, this looks like a good opportunity for them to pad their road record.
Therefore, the Dodgers' run line is the play here and should be taken as long as it's -1.5.
Pick: Dodgers Run Line -1.5 (-125)
