Dodgers vs Cubs Parlay Analysis
The Dodgers are set to face the Cubs in the second and final game of their Tokyo Series Wednesday morning.
Coming off their strong 4-1 performance in the series opener, the Dodgers will be looking to complete the two-game sweep over the Cubs prior to flying back home and preparing for the rest of the season. The pitching matchup will feature Roki Sasaki and Justin Steele.
Sasaki will be making his MLB debut for the Dodgers. Last season, Sasaki tallied a 2.35 ERA and 10-5 record while pitching for the Chiba Lotte Marines in the NPB. The 23-year-old has put up tremendous numbers in Spring Training, recording seven strikeouts over seven scoreless innings with a WHIP of just 0.86.
As for Steele, he's been solid since debuting in 2021. However, his spring training performance might have some fans worried. In 2024, Steele pitched 24 games and recorded a 3.07 ERA with a career-best 1.10 WHIP. His struggles started this spring, where he posted a 9.35 ERA over three outings. Notably, he surrendered 14 hits and four homers over 8 2/3 innings.
Although we only have one game to go off of in terms of which team’s batters looked sharper, this edge would go to the Dodgers in my view. In the first matchup of the season, the Dodgers forced multiple long at-bats — Max Muncy alone forced 32 pitches out of Cubs pitchers, with teammates Will smith and Shohei Ohtani also following suit.
I expect Steele to be on a similar pitch count as his teammate Shota Imanaga, who only threw 69 pitches. With a strong lineup, Sasaki pitching in his native country in his MLB debut, and Steele’s recent struggles, I am backing the Dodgers to complete the sweep in a low-scoring affair.
