The Los Angeles Dodgers look to pull even in their road series with the Colorado Rockies after dropping game one on Monday night.
The Rockies shut down one of the more prolific road offenses in baseball by holding the Dodgers to just three hits in a shutout victory at Coors Field.
The Dodgers look to Clayton Kershaw to help them bounce back, while the Rockies send Kyle Freeland to the mound with hopes of securing the series victory.
Can Kershaw and the Dodgers Bounce Back Without Betts?
Despite the loss of their star outfielder and ignitor at the top of the lineup in Mookie Betts, the Dodgers are still 6-4 without him. The Dodgers have been fortunate to have a relatively soft schedule so far in Betts' absence. Nonetheless, they still picked up a huge weekend series victory on the road against the Atlanta Braves, which was their first true test since losing Betts to a broken rib.
Clayton Kershaw takes the hill for the Dodgers, and he's been a very steady road arm this season. Over 29 road innings, Kershaw has posted a 1.24 ERA with a 2.10 FIP. He's also pitched very well over his last three starts, which includes two road starts against strong offenses.
Overall, the Dodgers' offense still continues to leverage platoons and piece together solid offensive performances night after night for the most part. However, their one weak split seems to be against left-handed pitchers on the road.
Over the past month, the Dodgers have posted a 97 team wRC+ against lefties on the road, which is only 18th in MLB over that span.
Bryant and the Rockies Looking for the Series Win
Kyle Freeland makes the start for the Colorado Rockies, but he has not been particularly sharp at home this season. Over 45 and 2/3 home innings, Freeland has posted a 5.32 ERA and a 4.58 FIP. Sure, it's at Coors Field so there is a little bit of a curve, but that's still not great.
The Rockies' offense has only been middle of the pack against LHP at home over the past month. They have posted a 126 team wRC+ against LHP at home over the last 30 days – only 15th in MLB.
With the return of Kris Bryant, the Rockies are hoping to get a little more production on offense, but with Clayton Kershaw on the mound, that could be a tall order. Even at home.
Dodgers-Rockies Pick
Considering the matchup and both offenses' recent performances, the under at 11 still seems pretty high. Coors Field obviously has its reputation for a reason, but after a 4-0 score in game one, the under seems like another solid play on Tuesday night.
The under sits at 11 and is available at plus money on some books. If it stays there, definitely take it, but it could be played at -120 or better. Additionally, the Dodgers' run line at -1.5 is at -145, which is fine, but the total seem to be the best value today.
