Calgary Flames vs. Colorado Avalanche NHL Preview
Colorado has won nine of the last 10 meetings with the Flames, including seven straight. Seven of the Avs' wins in that span have come by multiple goals.
The Avs have had a big home-ice advantage this season with a 25-11-2 record in Denver.
Scott Wedgewood is going to get the start tonight, and he's been good as a backup this season. Wedgewood has a 10-4 record with the Avs with a 2.02 GAA and a .911 save percentage in his last 10 starts. That includes a 4-2 win over the Flames on March 14th where he faced 24 shots.
Colorado is only allowing 2.76 goals per game on 24.9 shots on goal at home this year. The Flames' offense doesn't pose nearly as big a threat on the road as they do at home, scoring just 2.44 goals per game on 28.5 shots on goal. Their offense has been middling recently with only 25 total goals in the past 10 games, and it's a big reason why they're 5-3-2 in that span.
It'll also be a backup taking the net for the Flames in Dan Vladar, who has a 10-11-6 record and .893 save percentage. The Flames defensively aren't great allowing 3.11 goals per game on the road, and it's mainly because of their PK unit. Calgary is only killing off 72.4% of penalties on the road, and tonight they'll face one of the better power plays in the NHL.
The Avs have scored on 29.3% of power plays at home this year, and that's a large part of why they're scoring 3.63 goals per game and getting 30.2 shots on goal at home. The Flames have struggled on the road with a 15-14-7 record.
Take Colorado tonight to win by multiple goals over a floundering Flames squad.
Best Bet: Avalanche -1.5
